(Jeremiah played by Adrian Paul)
Joshua and Naomi arrived home on the day of Josette's funeral. After speaking with Jeremiah, he was apalled at what had happened. He didn't question his son about what had happened, he just let it be known that Barnabas' beautiful wife had gotten sick suddenly and died. No one questioned the story, it was assumed that the cold bleak climate had killed her.
Barnabas had challenged Jeremiah to a duel, and Joshua was livid.
"Jeremiah, you will not go through with this nonsense," Joshua told his younger brother.
Jeremiah just stared at him angrily in response, and stalked out the front doors. Angelique watched in the shadows of the stairwell. Now, that her master had released her to come and claim her prize, nothing was going to ruin it for her. Nothing. She followed Jeremiah out the doors, and went towards the cemetary.
The Collins family had been very grateful to the pretty blonde maid for bringing Sarah home, but only Jeremiah questioned what Sarah had been doing so far from home. No one pursued it, they were to glad to have the little girl back, safe and sound.
Jeremiah grieved for the beautiful young woman who had died such a torturous death. His grief would soon be followed by anger, then the grief would come back. She had seemed so happy when she had first arrived, and after marrying Barnabas he hadn't seen her very much.
His thoughts were interrupted by footsteps, and he stopped, and stepped off the trail, hiding in the trees. He didn't want to talk to anyone, and when he saw Barnabas he wanted no outside interference. Waiting, he saw Angelique, and wondered what she was doing out here, it was cold, and beginning to drizzle. She was going to the cemetary, and Jeremiah surmised it was to pay her respects to her dead mistress. He had better follow her, he thought. She wasn't used to this weather and not familiar enough with the Collins Estate to be wondering out here alone. He would keep at a distance and let her grieve without his interference, then when she was safely on her way home, he would go and see Barnabas.
Watching her go to Josette's grave, and he watched perplexed as she began to laugh, laugh at Josette? He listened, and was horrified at what he heard.
