The rain was cold, and Jeremiah felt it now, as he hurried back to Collinwood. Angelique had caused Josette's death. It was impossible he thought, and if he hadn't witnessed Angelique's little ritual at Josette's gravesite, he would never have believed it. He had watched in horror as Angelique had called Josette's spirit to her, and had taunted her with how she had been responsible for her death. Josette had said something that had puzzled him even more, "but you were dead. You took Sarah, and it is because of you I died such a horrible death. It hurt. I was suffocating, and pain was always with me. I was hungry for awhile. Did you know that? Do you know what it feels like to be hungry, Angelique? I didn't. But I forgot about the hunger, the filth, and the cold. I just wanted to die."

"And you got your wish," Angelique had said, followed by an evil laugh.

"Jeremiah found me, and he made me feel warm and safe for a little while. I told him to tell Barnabas I was sorry. Did he?" Josette asked forlornly.

"You don't think Barnabas cares, do you? You were a burden to him. Why do you think my master released me, and allowed me to come back? Because Barnabas wanted me instead of you. He loved me, not you. You were a mistake." Angelique kept taunting her.

"Why are you lying to me, Angelique?" Josette said.

Angelique waved her hand, and a vision of Barnabas lamenting over the mistake he had made marrying Josette, and stating how he wished he had married Angelique instead. Since their night in Martinique, Angelique had loved him, and he had foolishly thrown that love away. On and on it went, as he searched for Sarah. Josette could say nothing, only watch, and be tormented by the words and the vision of her husband, the one person she had loved more than her own life.

Jeremiah heard the ghost of Josette gasp, as the vision changed of Angelique taking Sarah to a conjured magical place of devils and evil. Sarah could only see what Angelique wanted her to, a beautiful island. But it wasn't real. Angelique had taken Sarah to a place of tortured souls, and demons, and had fed her lust for destroying people, hatred, lies, and a sexual depravity beyond human comprehension. He saw Angelique feed off the evil, and watched it attach itself to little Sarah, and a dark, black unearthly haze became a part of her. And when she was with Angelique it seemed to throb with life, and he watched as Angelique fed off the evil, growing more powerful, and his little sister losing more of her light.

"You had to die, Josette. Barnabas was meant to be with me. And I will have him, no matter who I have to destroy. He will marry me, and I will be Mrs. Barnabas Collins, and any thought he has of you will be one of unpleasantness. And if he refuses, then I will kill Sarah first, and if he continues, I will kill his mother, then his uncle, and finally his father. But he'll marrry me." Angelique finally stopped talking, and laughing, and became somber as she chanted words to beguile Barnabas.

She swayed back and forth as if performing for Josette, but what he did not see was the copulation between Angelique and her master, but Josette did, it was for her benefit. It was meant to torture her soul, so she could not rest even in death.
