By the time Jeremiah had reached Collinwood, he had unsuccessfully tried to convince himself that he had imagined the whole scene at the graveyard. It had proven an unsuccessful waste of time, he could not convince himself. It had been real. Angelique had been responsible for Sarah's disappearance, and Josette's untimely death. Angelique was a powerful and dangerous witch, who was now esconced at Collinwood with the blessings of the lord and master, Joshua. It was an uneasy blessing, Jeremiah admitted to himself, but, nevertheless, she was there. His sister Abigail had welcomed her with open arms, still looking for a witch, and had pointed an accusing finger at Sarah's governess, Victoria Winters.
Sheets of rain were falling, and the wind was making it hard to see. Jeremiah made his way carefully to the entrance of the house he had designed, and had overseen the construction of the mansion. Happier days he thought bitterly, as the vision of a dying young Frenchwoman blinded his vision more than any rainstorm could.
Reaching for the doors to enter, a very upset Victoria
Winters fell in his arms.
