Jeremiah screamed as he felt himself being pulled back in a vortex of wind. He was disoriented, and the wind was so loud he thought his skull was going to split wide-open. Then it stopped, and he found himself laying on the ground. It was still dark, and he looked around, and noticed he was at Widow's Hill. He tried to rise, but his stomach rebelled, and he threw up. He stayed still for a couple of minutes to let his stomach settle. Did his horse throw him? What had happened to him? What was Laura doing with Barnabas, Quentin, and Edward? Or was it Joshua? He didn't know. He whistled for his horse, deciding not to let the vision stop him for his mission.
Tying his horse in front of the shipping office, he walked in, and made his way to the back office to check on what ships would be leaving tonight. He found one that would leave in an hour headed for Greece. That would do, Jeremiah thought grimly. He knew that Angelique had tried to stop him tonight with one of her visions, but he couldn't be stopped. People's lives depended on it. He couldn't share this with anyone or their life would be in danger, not even Joshua. How, he wondered did Angelique know that he knew? Maybe Angelique wasn't responsible for what had happened to him.
Finding the captain of the departing ship, he informed him of a new passenger who would be boarding at the time the ship left. And he warned the captain not to say a word about it or it would be his career. The captain gave his word, knowing that Jeremiah Collins could ruin him in every harbour in the world if he chose, so when he said he wouldn't say a word about the mysterious passenger, he meant it.
He made his way towards the Old House, and nearing
Widow's Hill, he felt a pull on him, and recognized the feeling. He stopped
the horse, and was trying to turn it around, when he heard a familiar voice,
"Burke?"
