Chapter 2

The Dance

Nicholas, you are no fun," LaCroix said catching the glass that his errant son had pushed.
"If you had had the experience that I had with that woman, you wouldn't be laughing either, `FATHER! " Nicholas said in a loud voice, noticeably angry.

"Uh-oh," said Miklos to anyone who was listening. "I don't want to be here if those two start."

The word "father" caused Janette to break her embrace with Barnabas Collins, and look toward Nicholai and LaCroix. Wonder what they're arguing about, Janette thought as she was reveling in the much missed embrace of Barnabas. Aaah, he was such a gentleman, and yet -- oh, well.

"Is that your husband and father arguing?" Barnabas said interrupting Janette's thoughts.

"Yes, it seems to be. Nothing new though. I was just wondering what it was about this time," said Janette.

Barnabas gazed into the beautiful vampire's eyes, wondering how anyone could let her go. She was superb. "To answer your question, mon cher, it just might be that Angelique is sitting right over there. And if you remember correctly Nicholas and she have a little history,"Barnabas answered her with laughter in his voice.

Javier Vachon was mesmerized! He had always believed that the most beautiful woman he had ever encountered during his 500 years was Janette DuCharme, and until now he had thought he knew why. That was crushed the moment the stranger walked in the door. The two dancing looked as if they belonged together, were purposely designed and created for one another, Finishing the beautiful Josette's Theme, Javier noticed the warm embrace between the two, and he caught Knight watching very intently also. Vachon could tell this was not the usual vampire that walked through the door. He wanted to approach LaCroix, and ask him if he knew what the difference between the man now whispering intimately in Janette's ear, and a vampire such as himself. If anyone knew, it would be the ancient 2,000 year-old vampire.

As if reading his mind, Vachon jumped when he heard a whisper, "curious, young Javier?" said LaCroix. "Don't do that to me, LaCroix, " Vachon said regaining his composure. LaCroix raised an eyebrow at that statement and smiled. You want to know the difference between Mr. Barnabas Collins and yourself? You can tell he is half your age, but you can feel his enormous power. Almost as great as mine, but, of course, not that great." LaCroix was saying. Vachon was listening intently, for LaCroix had read his mind.

"A beautiful young woman by the name of Angelique Bouchard met and fell in love with Barnabas Collins on the island of Martinique..."
