The Obsession of Maggie Evans -- 2

The storm had subsided somewhat as Sam Evans and Joe Haskell entered the Blue Whale. Sam stopped as he entered the door. The scene before him was astonishing. Victoria Winters was standing near Maggie and Barnabas trying to get Maggie's attention. It appeared it was a useless exercise, for Maggie and Barnabas were in what looked like a lover's embrace. Burke Devlin appeared to be paralyzed. The rest of the patrons were standing around, not daring to talk or move, also staring at the couple. They were not staring for the same reason though. They were used to the Collins family and their eccentricities. They were still in shock that Maggie Evans was before them alive and well. As far as Barnabas Collins, most of the population of Collinsport found him a refreshing welcome from his cousins Roger and Elizabeth. The young people, in particular, thought this cousin from England was cool, and quite with it.

"Maggie!" Sam said in a rather sharp tone, although he did not intend it that way. He had had no idea that Maggie knew Barnabas Collins so well. She had seen him when he came to the cottage, and sometimes she would drop him off at the Old House, at the time he was painting Barnabas' portrait, and then she would go and visit with Vicki at Collinwood. Maggie spent most of her free time with her fiancée, Joe Haskell. Oh well, Maggie wasn't well.

Joe Haskell was also taking in the scene of his fiancee in the arms of Barnabas Collins, it was a very intimate embrace, and he didn't like it one bit. He felt a twinge of jealousy, and immediately squelched it. Maggie wasn't herself.

"Maggie, your father is talking to you," Barnabas said very quietly.

"Don't leave me, Barnabas," Maggie said in a choking sob, she leaned into him closer pressing her body's length next to his. Barnabas could feel her nipples harden as he softly stroked her back, and he was beginning to feel desire, his manhood was hardening, and his fangs were beginning to descend.

"Burke, call Dr. Woodard," Vicki said in a voice louder than she had intended.

Vicki's voice shook Burke from his paralysis, as he said, "yes, of course," and went off to do so.

"Maggie!" Sam stated once again.

"Go!" Maggie heard the voice in her thoughts, and she knew it was not spoken aloud. It was Barnabas commanding her to go to her father, and she would do that for now. One thing was certain, she was not going to lose Barnabas Collins. She needed him. She wanted him with her all the time. She wanted him to touch her, do anything he wanted, just as long as she could be with him. Barnabas gently disengaged Maggie from him, and walked her to her father.

"Pop, I'm sorry. Where's the little girl that was with me? She showed me how to get home."

"Maggie, there's no little girl here," replied Sam.

"Maybe she disappeared. She was always doing that," said Maggie.

"Come on, honey, let's go. Dr. Woodard is waiting for you," said Sam.

Victoria and Burke were leaving also to meet Sam, Joe, and Maggie at Dr. Woodard's office.

"I will be getting back to the Old House, while this storm has let up," said Barnabas.

The amenities were made, and the group left.

The Vampire was moving very swiftly, he was very angry, his anger having replaced his fear was causing the storm to rise up again only at a ferocity greater than before. The churning sea had caused the foaming waves to pound the beach at a ferocious speed, only to be pulled back into their dark domain and spit out on the beach over and over again. They were pounding the beach so hard, their roar was in conjunction with the thunder. The lightning was flashing across the sky, lighting it up, so if one were looking they could see the trees bending from the hurricane force winds that were now blowing. Rain was falling at such an intensity, the innocent motorist would find it hard to see where he was going or even if he was lost.

The Vampire was oblivious to what was going around him, as he was making his way towards Collinwood. The human eye could not detect his presence, his supernatural ability allowed him to move at a rate that he looked invisible, whether he was flying or running. The animals in the countryside knew he was nearby. The farmers were afraid their livestock was going to break down their barriers they were so skittish, and wild. They seemed to want to get out, and they had experienced storms before, but they could always calm their animals down. Now, they were afraid to go near them. The howling dogs sensed their master's presence and seemed to be awaiting his command. His anger was palpating, emanating from him. The keens senses of the animals felt him for miles. If a human being had the same ability, they might have retreated, because they would have assumed they were feeling evil.

The Vampire had one person on his mind, and one word to describe what he was thinking at the moment. BETRAYED. Hoffman had betrayed him. The eminent Dr. Hoffman had reassured him time and time again that, as far as Maggie Evans was concerned, everything was under control. She had amnesia. Maggie didn't remember anything about her experience with him at the Old House. Of course, Dr. Julia Hoffman did not take into account the blood bond between the vampire and victim. Barnabas had spent hours, night after night telling the good doctor about the powers of the vampire, and the relationship between the vampire and their victim. He had questioned her at length about the bond between him and Maggie. She kept telling him that the amnesia had taken care of any effect that he had had on her, plus the blood transfusions that Maggie had had before had weakened the link. Barnabas had chosen to let it go at that. He had reached out to Maggie, and sometimes would feel a twinge of fear, but that was it. He had the ability and power to mask himself, his thoughts, pain and emotion from her. He let the link stay weak, and finally there was nothing. He did not pursue it, nor lean on the link . Barnabas would leave it alone.

Barnabas knew how Julia Hoffman felt about him, but would never acknowledge it. She was intensely jealous of any mention of Josette. She was curious about her, and he was willing to indulge her curiosity. He would drain her, enjoying every minute. When he was done with her he would toss her body over Widow's Hill, and that would be the end of her. No one would ever find her, and even if they did they would not recognize her, he would see to that.

"I have warned her about interfering with my plans to make Victoria Winters my bride. My Josette. She has known all along, and now she WILL PAY. Then I will have to deal with Maggie Evans."

To be continued.
