Wounds of Fear
Chapter 1
(Jeremiah played by Adrian Paul)
Where am I, Quentin thought, and groaned out loud from the throbbing pain in his head.
"Who are you?" a deep male voice with an English accent asked.
"Quentin Collins." he slurred.
"Collins?" the older man questioned.
"Yes." Quentin said, perplexed because he recognized the voice. It was Barnabas.
"What is it? Why are you looking at my nephew like that?" Jeremiah Collins asked.
"Barnabas?" Quentin questioned.
"You know this man, Barnabas?" Jeremiah queired his nephew.
"No, Uncle, I do not." Barnabas answered.
"Very strangely dressed." Jeremiah said walking around and looking the strange man over.
"Yes, he is." Barnabas replied just as confused as the man on the ground.
"We had better take him back to the house, it's starting to rain." Jeremiah said.
"Good idea." Barnabas said worried.
"What is it?" Jeremiah asked Barnabas not missing the look of worry cross over his nephew's face.
"What if he's a criminal or maybe even a warlock?" Barnabas almost whispered.
Barnabas stumbled forward as Jeremiah hit him hard on the arm, and said "I'll not listen to that kind of talk, nephew. You no more believe in warlocks and witches that I do. But that's how the hysteria starts. Now, this man says he's a Collins, let's take him back to the house." Jeremiah said sternly, as he watched lightening paint the sky, and big drops of rain began to fall.
"I can walk," Quentin said perturbed by what was going
on, and not knowing where he was. And Barnabas didn't recognize him, and Jeremiah
-- Jeremiah! He was in 1795 -- He had found the stairway of time, and had gone
in search of Barnabas, Julia and Eliot, and instead of ending up in 1840, he
was in 1795. His thoughts were jumbled, his head was still throbbing. And he
felt fear shoot through him, as the two men, one familiar, one a stranger, but
both strangers, and the talk about
warlocks frightened him. Pictures scampered across his vision of Count Petofi,
Nicholas Blair, and Angelique. ANGELIQUE, his mind screamed at him. Apparently
she had not cursed Barnabas yet, and Jeremiah was alive and well -- those were
his last thoughts as darkness claimed him, and thunder roared across the heavens
waking the evil to find its wayward son.
