Nicholas took her to the Shipwreck Shanty on Highway 1 that curved along the coastline from Maine to Florida. It overlooked a shoal where many ships had run aground long ago. Widows Hill was nearby. The weatherbeaten grey plank building held a warm ambiance inside. Locals and tourists were seated at the net-strewn bar; a few tables remained empty but most were full of hungry seafood lovers. Nicholas took charge with the hostess and asked about the pylon-supported deck. Could they eat outside? Most definitely, she replied, cautioning that it would be breezy, as she guided the couple through the bar to the restaurant's exterior.
"Oh, my gosh, it's so beautiful here!" Dianna gushed, wonderment illuminating her sun glistened face and the breeze ruffling her hair. She took off her sunglasses so she could capture the full effect. The silver blue ocean rumbled to shore with dancing white caps. Bobbing boats were tied to moors. Seagulls dove for scraps. It felt wonderful but sadness overcame her.
"What's wrong, Dianna? You suddenly look ill," Nicholas' voice was full of concern.
"I was thinking of Willie," she said sadly. "He'd like it here. He'd feel free, like the seagulls." She put her sunglasses back on to hide the moisture building in her eyes.
"Is there trouble in paradise?" he questioned. If there was a possibility of his entrance into her life then this would be the time to find out.
"No, not really. It's just that I sense a free spirit in him that doesn't want to settle down. I'm afraid I'll push him away if I insist upon the ring, marriage, and house with white picket fence."
The waitress interrupted her soul bearing with lemonade for Dianna and vodka tonic for Nicholas.
"You two certainly are different. I never would've expected Willie to find such a beautiful, well educated woman like yourself. I hope he realizes the gift he was been offered." She lowered her head demurely as Nicholas expounded on her virtues. She shyly looked up at him.
"Do you really think I'm pretty?" she asked, uncertainty quavering in her voice.
Nicholas was surprised at her question. There was always room for improvement, he thought. But even the beauty of Angelique hadn't guaranteed faithful lovers and a life free of hardships. Angelique's immaturity would always lead her astray.
"Yes, Dianna. You are quite pretty. I don't know why you had to ask. Willie is a lucky man." She smiled as his verification even though she doubted his sincerity. He was after something and doing it very slyly.
The waitress came with an overflowing platter of fried clams, fried shrimp and scallops with french fries and cole slaw. She set plates in front of them with utensils wrapped in napkins and placed the platter between them.
"Anything else I can get you two lovebirds?" she asked. Nicholas and Dianna looked at each other, perplexed at the waitress' question. "It's as obvious as the sun is out. You two are in love!"
But not with each other, Dianna thought, looking intently at Nicholas. He did have a certain savoir faire. He could certainly charm the pants off of.....she blushed as her memory of Willie on their last date before he disappeared.
He had made her feel so warm and moist; his fingers massaging her into excitement. She had moaned and grunted at the intensity of his fingers probing her canal and, finally, rapidly flicking her nub until electricity built and exploded through every cell of her body. He kept fingering her, feeling her body rock with each jolt as her climax coursed through her virginal body. She felt so womanly! He then took her hand and placed it against his full erection bulging through his jeans.
"When you're ready, I want to put this inside you," he huskily said, his breathing labored with desire. "It'll feel even better." Yes, she had wanted to say. Yes! Do it now while I'm wet and wild to feel you inside me. Take me! I want to be taken!
"Dianna? Dianna, are you still here with me?" Nicholas asked.
"Oh, yes, Nicholas. I was just off in space for a second." Her memory of his touch made her feel warm and wet again.
"I gathered as much. I hope it was a pleasant memory," he stated, helping himself to the food.
"Oh, yes. More than you know." She squirmed in her chair, hoping to make a quick visit to the ladie's room soon.
But Nicholas did know. He sensed her pheromones emanating from her body. Diabolos would be pleased to find her at his altar. No matter what Angelique had done, he would be redeemed by bringing Dianna with him. Dianna's blood would flow freely as the sword pierced her heart; she would scream in ecstasy as her body convulsed at joining the dark forces. She would be his bride of darkness and have more power than Angelique could ever imagine. Dianna would rule with Diabolos. She would be Queen of the Netherworld.
"Now it's you who is lost in his thoughts," she chided. "Come on, either we eat this delicous food or we'll have guests," she laughed, pointing to the hovering seagulls.
"Yes, my dear. You are quite right. Let's eat as if it is our last meal!"
