"Ah, Angelique, just in time. Roger seems to think that something has happened but both you and I know that everything is perfectly fine. It's not like I had died or anything."

"But Aunt Elizabeth, you're..."

"Leave, David have Angelique take you to the play room. This is strictly family business."

"Ale...Angelique may stay Roger. She's more involved in this situation than you know. Isn't that right dear?"

"Miss Collins, I don't know what you're talking about, really, I should leave as Roger suggested."

"No Angelique. If Elizabeth wants you here, then stay. Now Elizabeth, why won't you consider seeing Dr. Lang? You know that he can handle this, secrets are his specialty after all. He could be here in minutes."

"Roger, I am fine but give me some time to talk with our new employee."

"Damn it Liz, this shouldn't be happening, we have no idea what this could be doing why won't you listen you fool."

"Enough Roger, leave."

"Fine, we will talk later. When you're done with Liz, find me, Angelique."

The heavy double doors swung open, nearly knocking David over but Roger didn't care. In fact, Roger didn't even notice his own son. The sight of him David peering threw keyholes and curtains was hardly anything worth noting any more. Carolyn however, felt differently.

"David, get away from there, isn't it bad enough your father almost hit you with the doors? What could be happening in there that's so interesting?"

"Aunt Elizabeth is killing Angelique, just like Angelique tried to do to her last night.

"What do you mean Angelique tried to kill my mother? I don't think that Roger would hire some psychotic killer to watch over you, well he might, but if he did, I assume somebody would have called the police after the first murder."

"He couldn't fire her or she'd curse him. She has powers you know. She brought Aunt Liz back to life."

"Oh, well then that makes sense. I know whenever I kill somebody I always bring them back to life the next day so we can poison each other's tea."

"Don't laugh at me. You know it's possible and if you make her mad, you might be next."

******

"Elizabeth! What's gotten into you? Let go of me!"

"You tried to kill me last night and then when I awoke, I was in this body! I don't know why you've done this to me, or even how, but I will see you in icy purgatory!"

"Elizabeth, I know what happened last night but you must trust me, I didn't attack you. It was a ghost, a powerful ghost."

"A powerful ghost that looked like you? You could have just said you were sleepwalking, or that you thought I was an intruder. You're going to have to learn better lies if you want to live here."

The fight dragged on, and the two women circled around the room, Elizabeth hurling lamps and vases, while Angelique tried to dodge them.

"Elizabeth, listen to me."

"Damn it Angelique, you know my name is Josette!"

******

"Yes, this is Roger Collins calling. Tell the doctor that I need to arrange a 'visit' for Elizabeth. Tomorrow, the main house. Come alone like always."

******

"Now what's happening, David? Has Angelique started hurling fireballs yet, or is she still riding around on her broom?"

"Shh, I'm trying to hear what Aunt Liz is saying. Why is she calling herself Josette?"

"Josette, Josette DuPres? If that's true we have much bigger problems than witches!"

*****

"Josette? Oh no, it all makes sense now, but then Alexis didn't kill you after all, I did."

"So you admit that you killed me, witch!"

"I admit that I was responsible for your death. If I hadn't done that to Barnabas, you'd have lived in peace."

"That's right, if you'd have let us live in peace, we would have married, we'd have had children, we would have died in love. But you couldn't live with our bliss, you had to kill Sarah, knowing what that would do to him. You're the reason he made the bargain that cost him soul."

"But Sarah knew too much, she tried to tell Barnabas, she told you what I could do. I couldn't die without Barnabas so I had to kill her. I didn't know that he would make the bargain, I didn't know that he would choose you to be his consort."

"But he did choose me, didn't he. You feign ignorance but somewhere in your soul, you knew he would come for me and you knew what I would do. You were never one to depend upon coincidences and luck and if you did, they fail you now."

**********

"Well, David, if Josette is back, then we'd better buy some ghost repellent. Maybe we should go straight to the exorcism. Josette is a legend. She was made up to keep us away from Widow's Hill. She's no more alive than the vampires that are supposed to pop out of the crypt to stop grave robbers."

"Listen, you can hear them for yourself."

"I expect to see David spying on everyone but I'm shocked to see where's he's picked up that habit."

"Oh, calm down Roger. David has insisted that Mother had died last night and Angelique brought her back. Now he even says that Mother is calling herself Josette."

"Don't worry about your mother Carolyn, I've already called a doctor."

"So you mean David isn't making it all up?"

*********

"So you have no defense? Then your soul must be a charcoal black, why else would you not attempt to salvage it?"

"Because arguing is futile! If you don't let go of me, neither of us will have to worry about redemption. Barnabas will be back!"

Storming in the front door, Roger's entrance startles the two women. Despite the intrusion, Elizabeth refuses to relinquish her grip on Angelique's dress. After all these years, the feud was so close to endgame and there was nobody that could stop her, until Roger pulled her away.

"Meet me later Angelique. We can work out some sort of compensation for this attack. Right now, I'm going to have a talk with my sister."

With a look of defeat upon her face, Angelique left. Hopes of victory seemed to wither away like a candle's faint trail of smoke. With all these enemies, could she ever win?
