The Transformation of Barnabas Collins

The weather was a rather clear day at the Old House. Barnabas alone gazed out at the window thinking back into his rather painful past. His whole life ripped from him in 1795 due to the curse. Constant strife and horrors unleashed. Long lost loves gone. His whole past ripped beneath his feet. He had been born into the latter of the eighteenth century wherein historically it was the age of romanticism. Barnabas had prided himself being a modern man of that era and certainly by his sheer manner was a man of his time-full of the romantic ideals and passion about love and life. He remember his father repulsed by such modern ideals as love. Joshua never believed a woman should make such a difference in man's existence and called it as nonsense. Barnabas then in 1975 was a romantic and saw the world in terms of that. That was engraved in his soul. The unfortunate set of events with Angelique curse had hardened him in many a way . But one of the few ways he held on to his romantic idealism was shown in the way the Old House was restored to a motive of 1795. Also , Barnabas refused modern electricity and the use of a telephone. But his idealism of romanticism was shown in what he terms that he had a tendency to go on about fanciful things. And it was about those fanciful things that Barnabas would be transformed into a happy and impassioned man. If you watched Collins he would become excited about such things- he would be elegant in his use of the English language . When when he was in such a state he would transpose the use of English to a refined elegance like an art form. He would go into elaborate declarations of the human heart and spirit here the sentiments of the human soul were expressed. That from his word, he would forever hold on to .For this was the "romantic ideal". That romantic ideal was personified in those he loved particulary Josette of whom his oral declarations of love were expressed to whomever would listen. Barnabas loathed the modern world in that this was missing. But when he himself became enchanted his would have such a command of the English language that would moved one's heart. And that is what Barnabas Collins missed in Julia. He felt over and over again in thinking she had many of the desirable attributes a man of his nature would want he felt her lacking in that regard and in the art of being alluring to him. But then again , the few times she did almost profess love to him, he stopped her. But what confused him was why she was like that in her total being in the way she dressed around men unless she was either stubborn, a definite possibility with Julia, or as a means to keep her feelings contained. He thought her not a bad looking woman. It puzzled him aside of a business situation that she was this way . Sometimes he had seen her dress attractively, yet other times he was puzzled . It was though Julia around him and others dressed business like all the time. Julia knew from counseling her own patients that there is a dynamics of relationship between a man and a woman and that there are certain factors that enhance that chemistry. He knew she wouldn't advise her own patients to not to be so for that would not enhance what was natural to make a man in love more attracted by the woman he loved as he would present himself to be attractive to her, as long as no human values were compromised it was acceptable and right. Julia does not need to look like she is at the hospital all the time he thought, she's doing that to avoid her womanhood somehow that way she won't get hurt. Julia had to know what type woman Barnabas was looking for the soft femininely dressed type. She had been with him enough to understand that. He felt she was being stubborn on that point and he would handle Julia. He was willing to accommodate her in the same regard of dress or style to please her. Once that was accomplished, he would not discourage her sentiment of emotion he had made that mistake too often. And as a result, Julia always gazed and doted on him with love, but would snap back into more a hard core exterior because he thought "Who does Love Julia Hoffman?" and Barnabas thought, no one she is loved as a woman loved by no man. That is a tragedy for such a good woman.

He was realizing that he did love her, and she was able to radiate a softness to him he had since it in 1995 when she tried to get Barnabas to leave her behind and he had expressed , "NEVER WITHOUT YOU". At that moment even slight he looked upon her alluring brown eyes and her softened voice. She appeared almost ready to melt into his arms. He in turn came that close to holding her but he resisted, he eyes filled with such a tender loving expression she melted before him. He knew she was that type of woman. He liked the fact that Julia was brave and fiery, to him it one of the traits he found attractive about her to him. He wanted to help Julia continue to heal , she was doing so well. So in dealing with her he would be quite patient and gentle with her. An advantage that Barnabas did have was a finesse, a refined style about him and elegant taste. He was knowledgeable with the way to approach himself with a refined lady. A blessing from 1795. Why not with Julia? If he was wrong then he would see it for himself but Julia by this would develop more into her womanhood. He wanted her to have the experience of being made to feel as a woman should for her own self esteem and happiness. That in fact, was the most important thing here was Julia being elated to the feeling of knowing what the beautiful woman she was in her personality and by a few enhancements in her attire. It would be quite easy for him to do. Barnabas personally would undertake this personally for Julia himself. Barnabas had excellent taste and since Julia cared for him so probably accommodate his request without much resistance. But I will help her. Yes, Barnabas Collins would personally coordinate this venture himself. He was going to dress Julia in what he thought was attractive attire, coordinate her jewelry, and hair. She may be angry at first, but in the end she will thank me.
