" ....Life is not a dream
So dark as sages say;
...Sometimes there are clouds of gloom;
But these transient all:
If the shower will make the roses bloom,
Oh why lament its fall?
.... Yet hope again elastic springs
unconquered, through she fell;
still strong two bear us well;
manfully, fearlessly
Can courage quell despair!"
Life from Charlotte Bronte
Barnabas stared at the portrait of Julia hanging in the Old house downstairs where formerly his portrait had stood above the fire place in the drawing room. When they were married Barnabas commissioned a portrait of Julia to be done. There she stood before him her illumines eyes staring at him almost piercing throughout the portrait. "Julia, every time I gaze at your portrait, it almost as though I have seen your love, beauty, and devotion for the first time, my beloved." "I think of you, Julia your courage, devotion, and beauty have given both of us even with our obstacles, a future, a destiny in life! Behold, I see my family unto all the generations, what we hold together, dear Julia, will be imparted to off offspring and future generations. An elasticity to fearlessly dwell into the brink of the future despite its despair or trials. Thus through our love and courage can we endure..."
While Barnabas was talking, Julia walked into the
room and overheard Barnabas' words. She was honored and in awe at the same time.
She loved him so and was moved by his spirit about her, his destiny, life and
the children. "Barnabas, its unto the generations that our efforts will be successful.
Your dreams of passion, love , hope, family and of family are a fulfilled dream,
my dear.! Your heart is happy on his day of Nicole's wedding because we are
in a state of living this dream rather than wishing for them Barnabas. The life
you wanted to live as a normal man with the removal of the curse and happiness
has surpassed your greatest expectations. Your family, Barnabas , will be the
Collins foretold by The Oracle by Nicole when she was young., where our descendants
directly will bring the Collins family to its greatness for many future generations
and hold a greatness never seen at Collinwood. Barnabas, it is our own children
by what gifts they have, the love and their special gifts will cause these events
to transpire. And Barnabas our lives have made a difference , we are the first
link to the greatness at Collinwood seen in our children. Barnabas we have succeeded!!
Unto ,the generations,will greatness follow to the Collins here at the Old House!
So exciting,Our own children!, think of it Barnabas that we are able to live
and see this greatness embarking!!! Our marriage, and love , , the restoration
of the Old House and its grounds , Life brought back in house with music, love,and
culture, and our children. Now the beginnings start with Nicole embarking upon
her marriage to Charles who will rival her as a partner in love and life. They
still need some direction from us, Barnabas, and I am glad they will be residing
at the Old House, but what promise for the future do they hold. And we can be
a part of that joy and guide their direction and path in life. For they and
their children will be a part of many generations again to dwell in the Old
House but will keep it with love, honor, humility, and a greatness not see often
in a lifetime. Barnabas, how I think all those years I have been our wife you
have made me so happy and moved my heart, my beloved. My beloved Barnabas, looking
at you I often think of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her words from Sonnets
From the Portuguese)
"And wilt thou have me fashion into speech
the love I bear thee finding words enough....
Between our faces, to cast light on each?..
I drop it at thy feet. I cannot teach
My hand to hold my spirit so far off..."
"Julia," replied Barnabas, I hold year dear to my heart. He walked up to her,held
her in his arms, and gazed into her eyes smiling. You are my life, my dear.
how little you realize it so. Without you, Julia , I am a lost soul. I love
you. The children are lucky to have such a mother and have benefited from learning
from you. Sometimes I think Nicole forgets that in her moods of passion," laughed
Barnabas, "that she looks into the stars sometimes while her feet are not grounded
on earth." Thank goodness , Julia, you make her think sometimes about events
in front of her rather than above her while she dreams. Nicole is quite a day
dreamer, I wonder where she gets it from.
Julia laughed, "Barnabas in case you haven't noticed. Nicole is more like you than me. She often gets so passionate that her ability to think is somewhat clouded. She is moved by the spirit of the moment and less inclined toward her present situation. Now who does that remind you of , Mr. Collins?"
Barnabas laughed and realized Nicole was almost a clone of himself so far as behavior and temperament were concerned. He laughed only realizing how much Nicole was so much like him in many ways, passionate, obstinate, family oriented, loving,carried by the moment,and oblivious to the moment sometimes. He couldn't believe how much like him she truly was, "Well, Julia, you are right, Nicole is so like me in many ways, and our work with her is not finished we have much direction then to help guide her, our work is actually just beginning."
Nicole was dressing for her wedding..She looked across the room which had been currently empty and saw people in it whom were actively engaged in a conversation. The room was decorated lavishly and had two people engaged in a heated conversation. All of the sudden one of the people turned around to Nicole's direction and cried out, "Help me , please help me!" and pointed toward Nicole's direction. She didn't believe the figure of a tall man actually saw her from the room and needed her help. She had been warned about time changes and parallel time but this was the actual first case she had personally experienced herself. But she had been warned by Julia not to go back without someone knowing for it could prove dangerous. NIcole, not having listened to Julia's advise entered the room in the other time.
Julia sees her go and screams, "Nicole, don't go. But Julia was too late and grief stricken. Julia the calm one, was becoming frantic about Nicole. "No, No, this can't be happening!" I warned her about going she may be killed or lost to us. I can't bear the thought of losing her again." This was like a bad dream to Julia. Before Nicole had disappeared, Julia had seen the face of the man Nicole was trying to save. It was that of Adam. whom hadn't been seen by Julia or Barnabas since 1968. If only Julia's words had been heeded by Nicole. Julia was angry at Nicole for leaving on impulse but also worried about her safety. Julia and Barnabas' work would not be over for a long time concerning their daughter. They would have to go back and find her.
