" Well Nicholas, I didn't realize that your son was involved with Nicole, she is a lovely girl. She has broke several hearts including that of my son , David. It has been rumored that once Nicole however met Charles, she never looked at another man or gave him the time of day. Charles never gave Nicole a chance to do otherwise. I've never seen a man intoxicated so by a woman but he was and proposed several days after he met Nicole. The comical thing is that Nicole agreed to marry him. We were all surprised here at Collinwood, when they announced their engagement. What surprised us further is that Barnabas and Julia were all in favor. But then again, they had known Charles longer than Nicole had. Julia and Charles had been working at Wyndcliffe together while Nicole was in Harvard. Nicole never came home to visit during her years at Harvard. But Nicole broke many a man's heart, she's a beautiful exoticating beauty with dark long black curly hair and dark brown eyes. Outside the hair, she resembles Julia Collins a great deal. Nicholas you haven't seen Julia in some time, she acts and looks quite a bit different. She used to dress rather matronly, don't really understand why and acted so reserved to anyone she met except Barnabas she acted as his friend but kept herself at a distance even with him.. She acted tough, logical and scientific but caring at the same time. What was funny, Nicholas, was that when Barnabas and Julia came back from 1840, Julia changed her image herself. Maybe she started seeing things differently or maybe she was motivated not to be looked upon as the old maid spinster, while cousin Barnabas looked upon other lovely women while she remained the good old friend. I really think Julia tired of that, and always knew Barnabas was also attracted to women with enthusiasm, passion, interest in what he called fanciful things, and also women who were also feminine. Julia felt enough was enough, she and Barnabas weren't kids, and she was entitled to a life also. Once Julia made up her mind to look alluring, exotic, feminine, and full of some life my dear cousin Barnabas never saw Julia as the old maid type friend again," laughed Roger. "You see until Barnabas went to Julia and committed himself to her, she ignored him and was enjoying herself for the first time. She was dating quite a few men, who took her to the theater, dancing while my cousin Barnabas looked numb from the distance. He didn't know how to act around Julia, who said to him, "Barnabas, we are still good friends, but I am human and have the need for human things including passion and love." Roger said, "My understanding is that after Barnabas saw me holding and kissing Julia, he became insanely jealous and proposed to the point where he took Julia from the house not even giving her a chance to change her mind. IT was on that same day that he wedded Dr. Hoffman. We saw them several days later after their elopement and honeymoon. But Nicholas, do be careful you see , my cousin is not only in love with his wife but possessed with her as well. He gets insanely jealous of other men who approach his wife in what he considers a romantic way. He is a very devoted husband, and in fact always in the pasts rather fond of Julia himself. He liked her spirit, intelligence and courage . She was fearless and had been devoted to Barnabas through the ordeal of Adam." But Nicholas was now thinking why too he had been not pursuing Julia as a romantic interest. He had always liked her and felt that they had a certain chemistry together. Certainly he had more to offer Julia than Barnabas Collins who he considered not worthy of Julia. Nicholas now realized too late than he was an idiot never seeing Julia as a woman but rather as the doctor friend to Barnabas.
"Well, said Roger, I do hope you and your son Evan will stay at the new house, during your visit. Stay as long as you want." "Roger," said Nicholas, "I would be most honored to do just that. I would like the personal opportunity to express my special regards to Barnabas and Julia. In fact, after what you have told me Roger I would not miss the opportunity to see the new Julia you have described."
There was a knock on the door of the new house and outside stood the figures of two sad looking individuals, Barnabas and Julia Collins. Barnabas was coming into the drawing room to tell Roger the need to cancel Nicole's wedding when he turned around and saw the face of Nicholas Blair.
