While Julia was fixing breakfast the enxt morning for the three of them, Barnabas was reading from Shakespeare in his favorite chair. Nicole curious about the vast collection of Barnabas' books, she began to look amoung the various titles. Expecting her to be bored, Barnabas was astonished at her mere delight in his collection of English literature. She opened up the books as one opens up a box of chocolates, devouring every piece of reading with an ardent fervor. In fact, Nicole waas so inspired; she began reciting aloud verses from poetry that impassioned her soul. Barnabas proud of his vast collection of literary works, was so excite by Nicole's actions and began to engage her in a discussion what she had read. He was so shocked however, to find this twelve-year old was to have an understanding of the material as if she had written it. Nicole had an uncanny insight into the symbolism, application of life, and the soul of mankind that only the most achieved scholars have knowledge of; especially at the age of twelve. Barnabas was delighted to see Julia's child understand mankind's struggle through life and the everlasting struggle of good verses evil that man has endured since the downfall of Adam and Eve from God's grace. His next thought turned to Julia, that at one time before fate had dealt her a cruel blow, that she too was soft like her daughter. Seeing this made him feel sad for his wife. Julia sometimes had difficulty showing emotion and passion. Nevertheless, Barnabas knew from personal experience from his intimacy as her husband that this was far from the truth, but he knew Julia was still contained, hilding pain from her past. She needed him now, and he actually needs her know more than he had ever.
In the meantime , Julia in the kitchen cooking thinking about what impact this whole situation would have upon her "beloved" Barnabas. Julia loved him so that she didn't want to cause him to come to him. He had just recovered from the horrible curse and all the tragedies that followed from it. Neither would she allow he dear husband to feel isolated or devoid of any love that she would bestow Nicole. The years had been a horror for Mr. Collins and he had been lonely, cold, and isolated in s state of fear, terror, and confusion, which no human endure in any lifetime.
Breakfast is ready. A knock on the door presents itself. There stands before the Old House. David Collins has come a calling upon Miss Nicole and Mr. Barnabas. David has far more of a boy school crush on Miss Nicole. Nicole upon seeing David, smiles with a half grin, big brown charcoal eyes and is enthused about his visit. Barnabas invites both children into breakfast, however the children are more interested in their own conversation. A reluctant Barnabas ventures toward his beloved. Anyway , he misses her and starts to engage her in conversation. Julia and Barnabas enjoy their private time together. He hugs his wife and allows her to lay her head on his shoulder. An angelic voice is heard from a nearby room. Both Julia and Barnbas venture into the main room where Nicole is entertaining David with a variety of songs in an operatic type voice. Music radiates like a rainbow for the first time in the Old House in two hundred years. The house is full of such happiness it has never known. David is just mesmerized by Nicole's singing and she is enjoying his attentiveness to her. They truly complement each other. The sound of music throughout the house seems to eradicate all the pain and the agony that had been there in the house, making it less like a faint memory of the past. The aura of the house now has been transposed to one of passion, enthusiasm, and hope . It's as though a blanket has wrapped itself around the Old House giving the sensation of warmth and security. A mirror sits in front of Barnabas and Julia as they see what appears to be the future of the Collins dynasty. Herein, what appears to be a future matrimonial union between Nicole and David thus uniting all households into one for the next generations of Collins. Thus appears to be a promising fate for the Collins family, the first perhaps its family has ever known.
