Nicole lay unconscience in her bedroom at The Old House. She had been examined by Julia , Haltstead, and Charles to ascertain her prognosis. But it from all signs indicated it appeared that she was dying.

Julia and Barnabas grief stricken refused to leave their daughter's side. And Charles , Nicole's husband, couldn't stop crying. He knelt next to his wife, holding her hand praying for her to come back to him.

"NIcole, I love you , my darling. You are my life, my hope, my future. Without you, there is nothing for me. My life is nothing . NIcole, please hear me come back to me. You must , You must. Nicole, Nicole, hear me..... If you die , I will follow you , our souls are one. I will not let you leave me alone in this life. I will go wherever you do, through all eternity. NO, Nicole, please if you love me hear my words and do not leave me. My heart aches for you. My passion burns for you.!

Barnabas watched this young man with great sadness.. He loved his son in law. His daughter had chosen a good man to be her husband. How this man loved Nicole more than life itself. Passion was ignited from this man's heart for his daughter. Yet Barnabas , himself in agony felt a sense of companion for Charles. Julia crying frantically herself took refuge in Barnabas' arms. She was a total wreck. But Charles was the worst. He was on the verge of a mental breakdown. His love for his wife affected his whole soul.

Charles was determined he would not loose his wife.

He cried, "Mon Cher, Jamais sans vous je laissent votre côté que notre destin est un notre amour est éternel nous sont d'un amour qui dépasse le temps ". (My darling, Never Without You Will I leave your side Our destiny is one Our love is eternal We are of one love That transcends time...)

Dr. Halstead, now Elizabeth's husband, was gravely concerned about Nicole. He wanted to talk to Julia and Barnabas privately. He motioned to them to go to another room. Julia now half out of her mind refused to go. In shock and disbelief, she felt so helpless as her beautiful daughter was slowly dying and she could do nothing . This wasn't real..only a nightmare. It had to be. She couldn't lose Nicole again.......Julia , looked upon the face of her sleeping
child and held her, tightly in arms, crying.

Barnabas, himself in agony, reluctantly pulled Julia away and both of them went to another room to talk with Dr. Halstead.
