Halstead, Barnabas, and Julia ventured back to the Old House to strategize war with Woodard's ghost. It was apparent to do so was also to consult with Nicole and Charles.
Barnabas had been further agitated to have found out his daughter was spending time with Adam, who had fallen in love with her. And if he had his way he meant to rectify both problems. The thought of another tragedy like the loss of Josette in 1795, was beyond belief to him , and yet worse his own daughter was involved this time. Not in his house or his lifetime. He remembered the heartbreak of when Josette married Jeremiah, and the thought of Nicole doing that with Adam, instilled anger and rage thoughout his whole being. All those years of torment, the curse, the family dead, and the misery, and the loneliness. He would deal with Nicole himself with Julia's assistance. He had intention another era with Charles, dead and his household in ruins And the fact remained Woodard's ghost on the estate could cause death to any family member. Collinwood was not safe..And his grandson was in danger. And he was besides himself. If he lost Julia, he couldn't bear the thought of going through life without her."Never without my Julia," Barnabas mumbled to himself.
The boys were gone in for the time, with Willie in town, so this was an opportune time to deal with this situation. In fact the boys, were spending the night in Boston, sightseeing for several days. Barnabas and Julia had sent them off so that this matter with Woodard could be resolved.
"Jeffrey, Barnabas, would you like some tea or anything to drink?"
"Yes, Julia, Dr. Halstead and I would like some tea, would you mind getting some for us?" replied Barnabas.
"Jeffrey , I wanted to talk to you alone for a few minutes. This business with Nicole and Adam. Is my daughter mad or insane? And Charles to be totally blind to this. I shall not have 1795 repeated again. I swear. Even If I have to lock her up in her room myself. Or do you think sending her away would be better. As you know, I am not too fond of Adam, we still have our differences. To think my Nicole, and grandchild with him, "Never." And she is doing this while the ghost of Woodard remains. She is not yet ready to be without Julia's direction ,yet . She has not attained the maturity."
"I agree Barnabas. You are most correct then you think. Easily a catastrophe can be averted if we make a few small changes, :" replied Halstead.
"I will keep Nicole as a doctor further for a while with Julia, and away from Adam. That is a fact. And her husband will be right there with her. The training with Elliot can wait , or not with Adam being near. In addition, she and Adam, will have no further interaction at Seaview."
"Barnabas, you can't limit Nicole's actions at Seaview with Adam, she legally owns all the property, plus much more. You do realize she is more powerful financially than anyone in the Collins household. She has attained that much wealth. And if you forbid her to do , she may give that wealth to Adam, not a necessarily wise move right now. There is another way Barnabas , a much simpler way, though I don't think she will go against your wishes, especially in front of Julia. I think Julia should have some say in this too don't you?"
"Why yes of course.," muttered Barnabas."
"But I tell you ,from this day forward she shall not be with Adam by herself. I promise you that. Even if every member in the house has to go with her, myself and Julia included. Nicole will tired of that fast. She of course, is not thinking however, this will be dealt with as well as the ghost."
Julia had entered the room with the tea for the two men and had overheard Barnabas' frantic voice about Adam. Julia was besides herself in disbelief and distraught over Barnabas' pain. When Julia saw Barnabas like this, Nicole was to be dealt with . Nothing would be allowed to upset her Barnabas unnecessarily, including Nicole, who may be responsible for another catastrophe at Collinwood. She wouldn't even allow this to happen. The thought of losing her family was too great of a loss to bear for her in the midst of Woodard's ghost of all things.
"Barnabas, Jeffrey, I have overheard you speaking about this. There is nothing to be discussed with Nicole about this. I will handle this myself, and she will not argue with me, for I will give her no way to do so , and I will get Charles to back me up. Nothing else be said."
"But Julia, " replied Barnabas.
"I am sorry, Barnabas, you may be there with me. But my mind is made up we will tell her together. But you are not to be lenient on her and give her choices. Think of your grandson."
"Yes, Julia , you are right. We will tell her that she and Charles may lessen their hours but they are to remain with you. But what are we going to say about Seaview and Adam."
Again , Barnabas, we love Nicole. She is not thinking. We will tell her not to be alone with him. It is not proper. The man loves her. That is all. And if she needs to see him, as you said , my dear, one of us will go with her, be it you or me preferably. She will tire of it quickly I assure you. What do you think, Jeffrey?"
"Barnabas and Julia I agree with you about Adam. I will help Adam myself. And in time, he will turn to us for help, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Roger, Peter, as it should be. But I think it would be wise for him to grow friendly with Charles, rather than Nicole. Once Adam is secure, he will fall out of love with Nicole, and hopefully end up with Carolyn. That is my hope. I eagerly look forward to helping that young man attain his potential, he has so much to offer. And if he were close with Charles. Then all things will work themselves out as they should be."
"Anyway, I think we should deal with the ghost now, I will go and get Nicole and Charles, this is our next step, replied Julia. Depend on Julia during the various troubles at Collinwood to be so calm and logical.
Nicole and Charles entered the drawing room where they were eagerly greeted by Halstead, Barnabas, and Julia.
Nicole and Charles entered the drawing room at the Old House.
Dr. Halstead replied. , "Nicole, Charles, now is the time of resurrection, awaken your protectors who are needed now to thwart the ghost of Woodard. Call out to them and let them heed your call. I command you to do so. Barnabas and Julia were in awe. Charles and Nicole stood there motionless. You are not prepared yet, my children for this, but I am. I will summon the spirits to heed my call through a seance. Lets get the table prepared."
All prepared the table, Barnabas and Julia implicitly trusted Dr. Halstead and went along with his bidding. All was ready . Halstead summoned the dead: "Spirits of the night, heed our call, we are protectors of Naomi Collin's lamentations for her son Barnabas. His life as well as his family , is in danger, Spirits of the past come to us and hear our pleas, answer us to the course of action. We beseach you. I call command you to come to me. I summon the ghost if he is present to show himself, of that of Dave Woodard come before me. Come before you daughter, and answer her summons. Nicole, summon your father."
"I call upon the forces of the heavens to make my father Dave Woodard appear before me. I call upon the ghost of Sarah Colllins, my friend for protection, heed my call!
The ghost of Dave Woodard appeared before Nicole and Charles".
"Nicole, I am angry with you. You have betrayed me. You knew what this man did you me, and still you allowed him to take you as his daughter. For this, I am disappointed and angry with you. You have betrayed your own father. This man , Barnabas is a murderer. You are an accomplish to Julia, as much as what Barnabas. Your blood is tainted also. I ask you to avenge my death. Do not allow this man to claim my grandchildren to be his. Barnabas must be exposed and destroyed. You must turn him in to the authorities and have him destroyed. You must also turn in your mother, as she has protected Barnabas Collins and helped in my demise."
"Sarah, Sarah, help me and heed my call for protection," called Nicole
"No one can protect you," replied Woodard.
The ghost of Sarah Collins appeared before her brother,
"Dr. Woodard, you once were my friend, I can not allow you to harm my brother or his family. Do not proceed . I will protect him.
Sarah tried her best to protect Barnabas but as such was not powerful enough by herself to combat him and send him away.
Charles Collins took command and feared for all of the Collins family,
"I call upon the forces of heaven, hear my cry, I grant the powers of the heavens to Dr. Halstead. Dr. Halstead, do you accept such powers, as I am to grant to you?"
"Yes, replied Dr. Halstead."
Dr. Halstead now endowed with those powers of the supernatural knew exactly how to proceed.
"I call above the eternal spirits and those of the dark, to remove this spirit who has disturbed our peace to go back from whence he came. His presence is not welcomed here. His presence is in defiance with that of the oracle . Remove him from our midst. I call unto the spirits. Heed my call I summon and command this."
The winds howled fierce, thunder blared at the great estate, then a few moments later all was quiet and the ghost of Woodard disappeared.
Defiant for now, Halstead had sent Dave's spirit back to his final resting place. And all threats to Barnabas and his family were non existent for the present moment.
Peace and tranquility were restored to Collinwood.
Once that sense of peace was felt, the spirit of Sarah disappeared too, "Barnabas I love you," was heard as Sarah's spirit departed.
With that Barnabas turned on the lights and kissed his wife, relieved the danger was over.
