Things had gone well, at Collinwood, peace restored to the great estate. Among the various daily occurrences, Nicole had decided to defy Barnabas And go back into time to the six months after the birth of Byron. Charles Supported his wife's decision. It was originally, intended that they would go to England and see Charles's estate. What was not told was they were going back? Into time? Nicole had always wanted to meet Lord Byron and now she wanted to share this with her brother Justin, who she invited along, Zachary, had no interest of course, and wanted to stay near his cousin Peter Halstead, However , Justin was excited about the possibility about going back into time. Justin, now fifteen years old, was very much like Barnabas also, very passionate, very curious about things, and with Nicole in the background, just intensified his curiosity of such. Nicole thought Justin would benefit historically from an undertaking, and learn what it meant to go back into time, go on a voyage into a ship and sail the high seas.
What Nicole was supposed to be doing rather at the direction at Halstead was taking this particular time to tutor the all the Collins boys in their studies completely acting as their mentor and tutor. From this of course, stimulated Nicole's active mind, and henceforth she decided to teach from solely books with the gifts she possessed was for naught, so she decided the boys would benefit from seeing things in different times. Of course, Halstead and Barnabas forbade such. But Nicole was not deterred. She simply chose the right time to implement such and was waiting until certain arrangements could be made.
Byron was six months old and would need to be cared for. And as such Nicole and Charles never had a honeymoon. However, Charles invited the boys to go with them. Barnabas and Julia however wished to remain at Collinwood and would gladly watch their grandson Byron. Reluctantly, Barnabas granted permission for the boys to go. However only Justin wished to go at this particular time. The only obstacle remaining was to get Charles not to tell Barnabas or Julia where they were going. Charles and Barnabas were very close, and Charles never kept information from his father in law. Nicole and Justin however were quite different. Justin, seized upon Nicole's weakness of Lord Byron to persuade his sister to go back into time. From there, there was no stopping her. If Barnabas and Julia had found Justin even talking to Nicole on this forbidden subject, the two of them would be subject to Julia's wrath. No harsher punishment awaited them than this.
Of course to Nicole and Justin going back into time meant adequate preparation of the customs, dress, and of their goals. They would need to read books of the time, have the right attire, and be aquatinted with the customs of the period. So they needed a period of time to make their preparation. It was decided that they would make the descent from Quentin's staircase, when they decided so. Nicole and Charles determined it would take a good three months of preparation for them to be completed educated for their trip. Nicole and Justin would leave first, it was decided. Several weeks later, Charles was to join them down Quentin's' staircase.
It was difficult to make the plans secretly for they were under the constant watch often of Barnabas, Dr. Halstead, Elizabeth, and Julia. Barnabas often watched Nicole and Adam to make sure, romantic interests were not stirred. Nothing would interfere with his grandson. He was very protective of Byron. In fact, Julia and Barnabas, reluctantly gave back the child to their parents at bedtime. One would always see, Byron , in either Julia's arms, or Barnabas'.
