Justin Collins awoke from the confines of his coffin where he lay in state. Dawn had fallen and the great estate at Clowned echoed from the howling of the dogs.

Julia had relapsed into a state of exhaustion after Justin's body had been removed from Rose Cottage. Flora encouraged Julia to rest. Julia made Flora promise to awaken her before dusk. But Flora concerned at Julia's health, felt it was best that she continue to sleep.

Nicole Collins, surprised by the interruption of Gerald Stiles made her excuses to him, and departed from his company.

Nicole walked through the woods, when she heard the footsteps of a stranger coming toward her direction. She hid behind a tree and saw her brother Justin.

Justin approached Nicole exposing his fangs like a blood crazed animal he had become.

Nicole was sadden to see her brother in this state.

"Nicole , stay away, I hunger for blood and will feed from you if you don't stay away. "

"Help destroy me and put me out of my misery. I cannot bear of hurting you or mother, or yet killing you."

"Justin, there is another way, let me help you" replied Nicole. The experiments that Mother started allow me to try them."

"No , Nicole, I can't allow any chances of me killing even one person, I must be destroyed . Drive a stake through my heart after dusk. I will be at the Old Abandoned Mill.'

"Swear to me you will do this!"

"No , I can not, I love you , you are my brother."

"Remember what damage father committed all the time Mother was with him all those years. If I even hurt or killed one person, I would never forgive myself."

"Remember when father was an animal he killed your natural father, Dr. Woodard. I have read the diary, Nicole. And then there were others. True father evolved to be a good person, but I can not allow myself the luxury to destroy do you understand?"

"Remember that Father even tried to kill Mother, David Collins. You can't ask me to be like that I refuse to Kill."

"Do you realize Nicole that Mother helped father do something that horrible?"

"Tell me why you forgave him Nicole and you never tried to destroy , Barnabas Collins, when you first found out ? Do you realize you betrayed your natural father, and his blood is also upon your hands."

"Father is harder on me than you or Zachary for he fears I may become in life what he has been a creature of horror. And yes, I am just like my father Barnabas Collins and it scares me even more. I can't bear the thought of what I may become. And without Mother's help, no telling what type of blood thirsty animal he would be today. For years , Mother stood by him, and he took her affection and devotion for granted, though she gave her soul to him. He only thought of her as a friend. She was a fool."

"Justin, I know of your condition , but never let Mother hear those words from you. She would never allow such things to be said about Barnabas Collins, you know how devoted to him and how much she loves him to hear that, no matter who says it."

"Nicole, that is not necessary. I am here to speak for myself." replied Julia.

Julia appeared before her son from the darkness.

"Never again speak of your father this way again in my lifetime about . Barnabas Collins, and speak the horrible things you have said about your father again . I will not tolerate such horrible things from my own child especially about Barnabas do you understand? If you ever talk this way in your father's presence, I shall send you away from Collinwood , do you understand Justin, permanently. That would break your father's heart and you would kill him. He has sacraficed his life for the Collins and the family, and has endured agony from his affliction for over two hundred years."

"Barnabas Collins has endured enough suffering and agony that no one can even understand.

"Do I make myself clear Justin?"

Justin heard Julia and exposed his fangs to her.

"Justin, the fact you are a vampire, will not absolve you from the horrible things you have said about Barnabas Collins. I cry for you my son,for what you are now. But Barnabas is my life and my love, and my husband, I will not allow this disrespect for you father, not even from my own children. Do I make myself clear?"

"And yes, for many I was your father's friend. I accepted it and gladly helped him because I wanted to, not because I had to. If I had to do all over again, I would do it again willingly, do you understand Justin? Nothing would change, I always have loved your father unconditionally. He needed someone he had suffered so and deep inside was a good caring man who deserved a normal life."

"Now, back to you Justin. I can give you a blood transfusion, or can kill an animal for you to feed for your affliction and need for blood. You do not have to kill any humans at present or in the near future. Your father learned to contain that need and we learned how to deal with it appropriately. So can you too. Don't be scared my son. And when we get back to our own time, we can do the experiments. The prognosis for your recovery is good."

"No mother , I can't allow myself to wait and destroy any humans. I will not take the chance despite whatever you say. You can't control or stop me from what I need to do to be destroyed."

Barnabas had heard the howling of the dogs and had heard every wood Justin had echoed. Barnabas' heart sank.

"No, but I can control you. You are under my power, as was Roxanne," snarled Barnabas. "Go and depart from this place now." I shall send for you later. I want to talk to Dr. Hoffman alone do you understand, no go, and await to heed my call, you will do as I say. Now go and kill an animal for you affliction, and feed upon that I shall deal with you later. And when you speak to Dr. Hoffman, you will listen to your "Mother", Dr. Hoffman, do I make myself clear?"

Justin heeded Barnabas' words and departed.

Barnabas turned around to Nicole,

"So , I assume that in the future , you belong to me to?"

"Yes, " Nicole replied.

"Well , all of this is new to me. I need to speak to Dr. Hoffman, Nicole, alone Nicole, if you don't mind? Go follow Justin and make sure he doesn't hurt anyone, and please be careful and take care of yourself. Dr. Hoffman and I will speak to you later, I assure you ."

Barnabas turned his attention to his crying friend Julia Hoffman to give her comfort for the pain she appeared to be experiencing.

"Julia, don't worry about Justin, he is under my control." For the moment , you are safe and need not to worry, my dear friend."

"You look ill , lets go somewhere and sit down, perhaps at the Old House and speak."

"No, Barnabas, Angelique is there, remember she is your alleged wife in this time and I am suppose to be your sister. You have expressed mixed feelings for her. It is better that I not come there. This is not my time , Barnabas, I do not belong at the Old House."

"Julia, remember this is Barnabas, stay with me. What is wrong that you refuse to be with me , Julia, explain what is going on, Who is Justin, and Nicole really, and from what time are you Julia? And where do I fit in here, please explain this to me, So I can work with you and protect you Julia.''

"No, Barnabas I will handle this myself. We are from the future, and are not trying to alter anything that happened in 1840, when you and I came from 1971 to save Collinwood. Our presence here , may have altered things already. I shall tell you no more."

"Julia, is Justin , my son?" replied Barnabas. "I have the right to know."

"I will tell you no more , Barnabas, as soon as we can we will leave. I shall not troube you. I need to go, it is better this way for all our sakes."

"Tell me why Julia, you are being so distant from me," I demand to know."

Julia refused to answer Barnabas.

"Well then , I shall use my powers to gain this knowledge from you."

Barnabas espoused,

"Julia Hoffman, Look into my eyes, I command you to look into my eyes, and tell me what is going on. Look at me and hear me. I command this."

Barnabas looked into Julia's eyes, and with the assistance of his powers was able to look into her eyes and find out that Justin was his son, Nicole was his daughter, and that Julia loved him, and was in wife in the future. She was trying to hide the fact that she loved him from him, because he had loved Roxanne and now possibly Angelique, and she didn't want to experience the hurt as a woman. He now understood her pain as a woman who loved him.

With this new knowledge Barnabas' heart began to melt and he felt the agony that Julia hid so well from him. Her eternal devotion to him, amazed him, and yes without her, what would he be even today. He heard her with her own lips
defend him above her own son. She was that devoted and cared that much for him. His feelings for her now were confused himself and he didn't know what to feel or think.

"I am sorry Barnabas," replied Julia, I didn't mean to complicate your pain and bring additional misery to you. I am sorry for it."

"Julia, it is I who should be grateful for your devotion and caring. To your own son, Julia, you wouldn't allow him to dishonor me, for you love me, but would never admit it to me. And I in this time am just a friend to you. Your caring and devotion is one of the wonderful traits about you Julia Hoffman. You have been a caring and loving friend to me, no matter what. I have cared for you, but I am confused. Don't be hard on yourself. I will help you with the children Julia, please depend on me and trust me, please. I will do my best to prevent anything from hurting you while we are trying to save Collinwood against Gerard. I will help Justin become accustomed to his new conditon."

" I never imagined myself with a family Julia, but yet Justin acts and looks like I did when I was and I do believe that he is my son. I feel for your plight, he will obey and do my biddings, he will not hurt you again. I promise."

"Barnabas, you can't forget your feelings for your wife Valerie Collins, I must go now,"sobbed Julia.

Julia walked briskly back to Collinwood with tears in her eyes.

Barnabas was confused and didn't know how he was suppose to feel.
