Donna sat brushing her long dark brown hair before retiring for the night. She was dressed in a satin nightgown adored with lace and ribbons at the neck and wrists. Tommorrow she would celebrate her birthday with her family. Cake, ice cream and presents would follow a dinner at her favorite resturant. Her children and husband would make it a warm and happy day for her.
Yawning sleepily she walked toward the bed where her sleeping husband lay. As she turned back the comforter she heard a noise from the kitchen. Had she forgotten to turn off the something? Shaking her head, she left her bedroom to check. In the kitchen she scanned the room. All seemed normal. Donna screamed as two hands slipped over her eyes. A voice whispered in her ear, "Guess who?"
Twirling away from the trickster, Donna gasped reckonizing Nicholas Blair!
"My god! I thought you were just a character from my favorite show, Dark Shadows! How could you be here... in my kitchen?" Donna asked with her crystal blue eyes flashing.
"Come now." Nicholas said his own eyes twinkling in response. "You know I am real. How could I be here other wise? How could I have read the delightful stories and peoms you write about me? And how could I be taking you out to celebrate your birthday dancing amoung the stars if I wasn't real?"
Donna cheeks blushed a delicate rose. "In my nightgown?"
"You look devine, my dear lady." whispered Nicholas. Holding out his hand to her he say, "Shall we?"
Donna lay her small hand in his and in a heartbeat she soon found herself floating in the night sky. Music sounded around them as they danced. The aroma of roses filled her with happiness. Nicholas laughed aloud causing snow flakes and rose petals to shower down upon them. "Do you know this song, my lovely lady?" he asked spinning her around.
Donna knew this song. "A Kiss From A Rose" she replied.
"Correct! Now I demand a birthday kiss from you my rose!" All night long they danced. One romantic song after the next played as they twirled. Finally as dawn lited the sky Nicholas returned Donna to her kitchen. And with a wink was gone. Sighing she sat at her table. There before her was a dozen red roses in a sparkling vase with a note written in elegant script. "Happy Birthday my Lady."
