Barnabas had sent Willie to help everyone back to Collinwood. And now Willie was on his way back to the Old House.
I wish I would have brought a flashlight. Willie thought to himself as he stopped and examined the path before him. Come on! Move man! You've been back and forth on this path a blue million times. But still he couldn't quite step forward. Willie hugged his arms to his body in an effort to warm himself against the sudden chill as a gray mist began to form before his eyes. Now he struggled to move, to run and his body failed him. Only his eyes straining in their sockets moved, searching for an escape. Then trying to close, to block the sight of the unbelievable apparition that was now laughing in his face.
"Jason McGuire! You're dead!" moaned Willie.
"You're not quite up to speed, Willie my boy. You don't remember seeing me earlier this evening, now do you?" stated Jason.
"What are you talking about? I haven't seen you since me and Barnabas buried you in the secret room."
"Well, that's a good one on you, Willie. Because we did see each other. I gave you that secret ingredient to jazz up the wine. But that Mr. Hoitey- Totiey Professor Stokes spikes me guns on that one. I can't decipher how that Quentin recovered from dying. A cute trick that one. I wish I had the knack."
"I didn't put anything into the wine! I wouldn't have done anything to hurt them! They are my friends!"
"Your friends," sneered Jason. "I was "your friend" once! And you helped Barnabas Collins to kill me!"
"No! I didn't! I tried to warn you. I tried and you beat me. You wouldn't take what I tried to give you. You had to be greedy. See where it got you!" answered Willie.
"You tried to help me. Well, well you are going to help me now friend Willie." mocked Jason.
"What? What do you want? I won't hurt anyone! You can do what you like to me, but I won't hurt anyone!"
"You'll do what I say and funny thing Willie, the really funny thing is you have no say about it, at all!" laughed Jason. "The main thing I want, that my soul can't rest until I get, is revenge! Revenge against them that did me wrong. And to my way of thinking that includes Barnabas and the whole Collins family. And you, Willie, decidedly you!"

Jason watched laughing ,as his former friend walked back to the Old House. How many days he had stood as a sentinel when that vampire had used the room to sleep. He had been helpless to destroy him, trapped in that tomb of death with that unholy, vile creature that had murder him. And imagine, he thought, his only friend, had been a slave to a vampire. His thoughts swirled and lead him back to the first time he had watched silently as Barnabas entered that room, blood dripping down his chin, his eyes burning like hot coals. He had shivered with what could have been termed fear. The vampire didn't have the power to discern the presence of a ghost, Jason knew that instinctively, any more than he had the power to leave and get a stake and plunge it through his black murdering heart.
