Meanwhile back at Collinwood: Elizabeth, Eliot and Barnabas were talking as they came down the stairs. "Really with very little effort the east wing will be perfect for you. I'd like to bring Willie over tommorrow. He couldn't do the electrical work, but I'm sure he could handle the plumbing and wood refurnishing."
"That would be wonderful, Barnabas! Of course I will insist on paying him." said Elizabeth.
As they entered the drawing room, Barnabas notices that Julia isn't present. Looking around the room with a puzzled expression, he asks, "Elizabeth, where do you suppose Julia has gone?"
"I'm sure I don't know. Maybe she went to bed." Elizabeth suggested.
At that moment Barnabas heard the front door open. Julia and Roger were coming in.
"Julia, you went out!" stated Barnabas.
"She's not on home detention,is she."sneered Roger.
Frowning Barnabas ignored Roger as if he had not hear him and continued to Julia, " I thought if you were to tired to view the east wing with us, you would be to tired for a walk."
"I never said I was tired." replied Julia taking Roger arm and continuing into the drawing room.
Barnabas, brows lowering followed behind. Roger seated Julia on the sofa and sat close beside her.
While at the Blue Whale: "Don't they look sweet! I'm so glad they've gotten over the past." Carolyn commented as she watched Maggie and Joe slowly danced by the table.
"Sure you won't change your mind and come trip the light fantastic with me?" inveigled Quentin.
"We just danced through the last three songs. Let me catch my breath, Quentin." giggled Carolyn.
"Ah,well. What do I do for a new partner? The crowd's a tad bit short of nubile young damsels this evening." said Quentin scrutinizing the room around him.
"Well, well, what do I spy with my litte eye?" declared Quentin catching a glimspe of the back of a curaceous figure across the room. "Hum.. Blond, too!"
"She seems to be alone." observed Carolyn. The lady in question had just seated herself in a booth in the back of the room. "Go on I dare you! Ask her to dance. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!" dared Carolyn.
"Don't blame me,if she monopolizes me for the rest of the evening. And you never get another dance." cautioned Quentin as he lefted the table with a glint in his eye.
Approaching the booth all Quentin could see of the lady in question was the back of her head. Rounding the booth, he said, "Excuse me, fair lady. May I....Angelique!"
"Sit down Quentin. You haven't changed at all. Surprized darling?" smirked Angelique.
Quentin slid quickly into the booth, opposite of Angelique.
Laughing softly Angelique said, "Say something. Quentin aren't you glad to see me?"
"I can't tell yet." answered Quentin. After a few seconds he asked, "Why are you here? Does Barnabas know your here? What are you plotting now?"
My, my! Your just full of questions aren't you, dear. No he doesn't. I haven't made myself known to him yet. Plotting? Maybe I just wanted to see you." she answered. "By the way, darling, my name is Miranda. Miranda Duval."
"You know I'm here with Carolyn, Maggie and Joe. And from what I hear Joe ended up in Windcliff because of you. Unless you want a major scene, you had better make your self scarce."
He won't know me. Anyone who knew me, with the exception of you, Barnabas and probably Julia won't recognize me. Smile, darling, you don't want to worry your friends do you?" she indicated Carolyn, Maggie and Joe who were looking on.
Smiling for his friends benefit, he asked, "Why are you masquerading as Miranda Duval, if no one will recognize you?"
"It's just until I see Barnabas. I have to do this in my own way."
"Meet me at the Caretaker's cottage on the Collin's estate at 1:00. We've got some talking to do!"
Grabbing her arm, Quentin declared, "And some explaining also, Angelique!"
Soft tinkling laughter sent chills up his spine, as he left the booth to rejoin Carolyn, Maggie and Joe.
To be continued......
