Elizabeth had just entered the foyer, when Julia came in carrying three shopping bags.
"Julia, your hair looks fabulous!" exclaimed Elizabeth.
"Do you really like it? I thought since Roger and I are going to the theater, I could stand a little styling."
"I'm going to spend the next couple of hours taking a bubble bath, reading a magazine, fixing my make-up, and generally preparing for a wonderful evening!" Julia gushed.
"Sounds wonderful! I'ts about time that you took a little time for yourself. If you need anything let me know," offered Elizabeth smiling.
"Come and see my dress, and then you could help me to decide on what jewelry to wear," said Julia.
A few minutes after Elizabeth and Julia went upstairs, Barnabas came down them. Mrs. Johnson was dusting the drawing room furniture and mumbling to herself, "A body only has two hands."
"Mrs. Johnson, excuse me," said Barnabas.
Mrs. Johnson, startled, gave a little jump and gasped as she clutched the dust rag to her chest. "Oh, Mr. Collins, you scared me out of a year's growth!"
"Please forgive me Mrs. Johnson, it was unintentional," apologized Barnabas.
"Well, I'm alright now. Did you need something Mr. Collins?" asked Mrs. Johnson.
"Yes, have you seen Julia?"
"Not since breakfast sir."
"I need to run an errand, and I don't want to miss her. Perhaps I should leave a note for her."
Barnabas stepped over to the desk and wrote a quick note:
Dear Julia,
I haven't seen much of you the past few days. We will drive down the coast and have dinner this evening.
B.
Folding the note, he placed it in an envelope, "Mrs. Johnson, could you put this in Julia's room please?"
"Yes sir," nodded Mrs. Johnson.
A short while later:
Eliot and Quentin arrived almost simultaneously.
"I'll find Elizabeth, and meet you in the study Quentin," stated Eliot.
A few minutes later, Elizabeth and Eliot joined Quentin in the study. After they were seated, Eliot took Elizabeth's hand as he explained the situation.
"Do you know how to do this thing, Eliot? What are wards?," she asked.
"It's a simplistic term for a specific ceremony. I can easily perform this rite. The components needed are readily available. But if Angelique is correct, the wards must be set at moonrise. I'll need your help Quentin, Elizabeth, and two others. There are four wards, seperate but connected. These will form an impenatrable barrier of protection that no form of sorcery can breach! But only inside the walls of Collinwood will we be sheilded. I have been collecting amulets for some time. Elizabeth, Carolyn, Hallie and I all wear them. I have two more in my possession. If Barnabas is Blair's target of revenge, he must have one. You, Quentin, should wear the remaining amulet," stated Eliot.
"You said that we needed two others. Anyone else in mind?" asked Quentin.
"Barnabas should be involved, and I think Carolyn as well. She has definite psychic abilities, latent, but still there."
"Eliot, before you involve Carolyn, I must know if there is any danger," said Elizabeth.
"Rest your mind my dear, Carolyn will be perfectly safe," assured Eliot. "Now I must gather what I will need for the ceremony. Quentin, you should find Barnabas. Inform him of the situation. You can accomplish this without mentioning Angelique."
"Barnabas is gone on an errand dear. I'm not sure where, but he should be back soon," said Elizabeth.
