Maggie laughed as she watched the children play an energetic game of freeze tag. David froze in mid-stride as Amy tagged him. Hallie's bright blond hair flew out behind her,as she raced just out of reach.
"Maggie...Maggie." whispered a low familiar voice.
"What?...Who?" said Maggie. "That voice!" Where was
it coming from? Something about that voice
stirred her emotions. A mixture fear and longing making her heart pound.
"Here Maggie. Come to me." the voice called.
Maggie turned, walking with slow dragging steps toward the trees. Rounding a large oak, she gasped, "Nicholas!"
Raising his hand, Maggie's face became blank. Seizing her roughly by the arms, Nicholas jerked her behind the oak. Crushing her against the tree, he savagely kissed her. Leaning back, his eyes blazed as they hungrily burned into hers.
In a low growl he said, "Once I let my love for you deter me from my mission! That..Won't... Happen..Again! But have you I will!" Pressing her to him once again, he moaned, "Maggie, my beautiful Maggie." He thought of all he had suffered in the firey pits of hell. And everything he had done since his Master had consented to allowing him to be in his abysmal presence again. Groveling, pleading day after day for one more chance. Only to have his resolve crumble at the first sight of her! "I won't lose you again! When Collinwood is in my power, YOU WILL BE MINE! Tonight I will call to you. You'll hear my voice in the wind. Come to me then." he commanded as he stroked her hair.
"Maggie! Maggie! Where are you?" yelled David. "Hallie wasn't she standing over here a minute ago?"
Releasing Maggie abruptly, Nicholas whispered as he faded away, "Midnight, I'll call to you then!"
Hallie screamed as Maggie stumpled from behind the oak tree and collapsed.
The children rushed to her side." Oh David! She unconsious! We need help. Run David. Hurry!" Hallie beseeched.
David jumped up and ran. He didn't want the girls to see how scared he was. As he ran, he saw Willie coming up the path. "WILLIE!" he screamed.
"Whoa! What's up Davy?" Willie said as David reached him.
"Hurry!" David panted short of breath from running. "Maggie fell and she's unconsious!"
"Where is she?" said Willie shaking David roughly.
"Near the old swing." gasped David.
Willie ran, leaving the panting boy behind. In a few seconds he could see Amy and Hallie kneeling beside Maggie's prone body. He dropped to his knees beside them. "How long she been out?" he asked.
"Just a few minutes." sobbed Hallie.
"What happened? Did something hit her? Her lip's bleeding." Willie questioned the girls.
"Ah...ahh. Willie what ..where am I?" Maggie moaned, coming to.
"Shhh, Be still Maggie. What happened to yah? Did something hit yah? Your mouth's hurt." he said as he tried to prevent Maggie from sitting up.
"My mouth," she stammered as she raised her fingers to touch her lip, "Ow..., I'm bleeding. I feel so weak."
"Don't worry Maggie. Julia's at Collinwood. She'll fix you up. Here, I'll carry yah."
When she tried to resist, Willie admonished, "Don't argue!"
