"Now You See Me, Now You Don't"

After about ten minutes of driving on the road back to Collinsport, Willie had decided that Wonderful Bob's magical formula was a dud. He was about to turn around and head on back to Bangor, when the tingling sensation began. The old man had told him this would be the first sign that the drug had taken effect. Soon he began to feel warm and sweaty and he noticed his hands on the steering wheel slowly fading away.

The whole process took about fifteen minutes for him to completely disappear. Unfortunately the invisibility formula only affected the organic, so if he wanted to be completely invisible he would have to go aux natural. Willie chuckled to himself as he imagined all the fun possibilities ahead.

Turning onto the main road, destination Bangor, came a vehicle that sounded like it might die at any minute. The old pale yellow Corvair convertible seemed more to belong in a junk yard than on the road. In fact many of its parts had come from the dump. It had one door coated with a dismal grey primer, and the other faded red with a dent so large that the door would no longer open. Like a cancer rust holes were slowly eating away at the rest of its decrepit body. Still, this car was considered as a prized possession. For it was owned by two teenage boys.

Enos and Elroy Snook were supposed to be having a big test in history today, but since neither had bothered to study for it, they decided to ditch instead. "Hey Bro, hand me another one of them brewskis will ya," Enos demanded.

Elroy took his brother's empty can. "Watch this dude," he shouted, as he crushed the can against his head, which sent both boys into a fit of hysterics. Then he adjusted his seat far enough back to where he could reach the hole in the floor of the backseat. Getting into position to toss the can down the hole, he shouted, "Ready for launch?"

Then both brothers screamed at the top of their lungs, "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, BLAST OFF!" At which Elroy threw the can down the hole and both boys laughed with delight as they watched it bouncing down the road in back of them, amidst the black smoke spewing from the remnants of the holey exhaust pipe. After a sixer or two, they were both VERY easily amused.

Enos was getting tired of waiting, so he reached over and grabbed a Budweiser himself, swerving the car into the next lane.

Elroy picked up the beer and pulled off the tab spraying his brother in the process. "Hey, do you think you can stay on our side of the road for awhile? There's a truck coming this way," he jeered, handing his brother the slightly warm brew.

Enos tilted his head back and took a good long drink. When he had finished he could see the truck quickly approaching, but something was horribly wrong. "What the?" Enos asked to no one in particular.

"Hey bro, that dude ain't got no head," Elroy answered in a voice that didn't sound quite like his own.

Both boys couldn't keep their eyes off the man who wasn't there, and subsequently Enos forgot one small thing......He was supposed to be driving!

Panic set in as he realized they were going to hit the tree, and the world went into slow motion. The rubber chicken tied to the antenna flapped in the breeze, the brakes squealed and a horrible crushing sound of the metal could be heard at impact. The boys were pitched forward. Enos, who actually wore his seat belt, stayed in the car, while brother Elroy took flight.

Amazingly enough both came out of it relatively unharmed. But the Corvair, the boy's pride and joy, would never run again. And the boys would have a heck of a lot of explaining to do when they got home.

He thought that it would be unwise to drive through town in his present condition, so Willie pulled off the paved road a little ways outside of Collinsport. Threading the truck through the forest of trees he finally found a place to conceal it behind a group of large boulders.

It had a been a beautiful day. And he was grateful for the unusually warm weather. After hiking for awhile, he decided it was time to become completely invisible.

Finding a tree with a little hollow in it, he removed his shoes and socks, and stashed them in his hiding place. Next he began unbuttoning his shirt. It was a weird experience not being able to see just where his fingers were going. He folded up the shirt and placed it on top of the shoes. Next he began to undo the buckle on his belt and began to feel quite embarrassed looking around to make sure no one was watching. Then it hit him, no one could see him anyway, so down off went the pants and Willie's transformation was complete.

At first walking around in the nude was very uncomfortable. The twigs and stones on the ground hurt his feet. And in the shade of the trees it was a bit too cold for comfort, giving him a bad case of goose bumps. So since he had a little time before Maggie's date was set to begin, he decided he'd prefer walking on the nice smooth sidewalks of town while on his way to Collinwood. Looking forward to the fun ahead, he set off toward town in his birthday suit, whistling a happy tune.
