Part 13
Angelique stopped on her way back to Collinwood at an old shack. She stared up at the portrate of the beautiful woman, with her dark hair, and bright eyes that seemed to see through you, Giselle, her mother long gone. Her lovely wicked mother, the most powerful on the island. She could command people to do her bidding. Angelique also thought of her father, Andre du Pres. He had been completely captivated by Giselle, from the first moment he had saw her. It was due to him that Angelique and her mother had lived in an extravagant house on the island. Her mother had often told her of how well her father loved them. Angeilque had constantly asked her mother why her father didn't live with them. After being asked numerous times her mother had finally answered, "You're father has too much standing in the community to stay with us. He has to be with his other family. But he love us best."
Angelqiue had adored her mother, and then everything came crashing down. Her mother had been hung as a witch. They had burned down their lovely home. But not all was lost. The night before her mother's death the young girl had spent the night with her mother, after much begging and pleading. Her mother had not slept, but taught Angelique everything else she would ever need to know to be as powerful as her mother, a legacy of evil. At dawn her mother was hanged.
Her mother and Andre had already arranged that Angelique would stay with the du Pres family as a servant to their daughter Josette, who was only a little younger than Angelique. Angelique watched Josette jealously. Her spoiled indulged half sister, if only she really knew. Didn't Angelique have as much right to the wealth, and popularity that Josette enjoyed?
Her eyes closed, thinking about Martinique. The warm sun, the beaches, the f everish ceremonies she had delved in. The passion she had shared with a handsome man named Barnabas Collins. But Aneglique knew that she was forever in their debt for saving her.
