It was later that night when there was a knock at Vicki's door. She hurried to open the door, thinking that Barnabas had returned to her. She instead found that it was Quentin. She stepped back to allow him to enter.

He noticed immediately that something was wrong. Her welcome hadn't been as enthusiastic as he had hoped for. "Are you alright?" he asked. "You seem different."

"Yes, I'm fine. I'm just tired." She moved to opposite side of the room, to look out the window.

He stepped closer to her. He took her in his arms and kissed her, but now there was no response. She had always been open and close ever since he came to Collinwood. But now the air between them felt frigid, and he wasn't sure how to reach her. "Vicki, there's something else wrong isn't there? Please tell me what it is."

"There's nothing wrong. I'm all right. Please believe that." She looked up at him. Her eyes seemed to begging him for understanding.

"OK I won't fight with you about this now, but I know that something's happened." He knew he couldn't force her to tell him what had happened, but he could watch her. Eventually she would betray what had happened. Then he would figure out what to do.

He turned and left her there, alone. She knew that she had unconsciously hoped that he would have found out what happened, and somehow been able to help her, for she was unable to help herself.

Julia had been in the lab all night, but she thought that she had finally found a cure for Carolyn. She walked through the corridors of the hospital, and encountered Elliot on her way to Carolyn's room. "Julia," Elliot rushed down the hall toward her, "You're finally here."

"Has something happened?" she asked warily.

"It's Carolyn." Elliot ushered her down the hall toward Carolyn's room. "She's gotten drastically worse in the past hour. They say she doesn't have much time left."

"Why wasn't I called?"

"I tried, but I couldn't get through. I sent someone with a message, but he never returned." Julia could guess that it was Because of Helen that no one had been able to get in contact with her.

Julia was now rushing toward Carolyn's room. "I think I have a cure ready for her." Julia reached Carolyn's room to find Elizabeth standing anxiously outside, and Roger trying his best to calm her.

"Julia, you've finally come," Elizabeth said seeming to take confidence in Julia's presence. Julia wished that she merited such faith. What if it didn't work, Julia thought, feeling the beginning of doubt assail her. She entered the room and found a team of nurses around Carolyn's bed.

"I want you all to leave," Julia ordered. "I'll call you if you're needed."

They all left, and Julia was left with Carolyn. She looked down at the girl. She was pale, nearly white. Her breathing was shallow, and her hart rate had slowed down. Julia opened her medical bag and pulled out a syringe and a vial of the potion she had created. She injected the medicine into Carolyn, and waited for any sign that it was working. She watched as a she broke out into a sweat, and her heart rate increased dramatically.

Julia hadn't expected this type of reaction. Had something been wrong with the cure? She grabbed her bag and looked for something that would offset the reaction. She took a syringe and prepared to give Carolyn another injection. She turned back to Carolyn to find that here heart rate had slowed down. Julia put the syringe away and checked Carolyn's vital signs. They were stronger than before though still week. She was no longer in danger of dying.
