Julia left Carolyn's room to find Elliot standing outside, waiting on her. "How is she?" he asked.

Julia took her glasses off and slipped them into the pocket of her overcoat. "Improved. She's still week, but she's out of danger."

"Then your cure worked?"

"Yes, it did. You can see for yourself if you want."

She started to walk down the hall to where the Collins family would be waiting. "Julia, you're amazing," Elliot said as she fell in step beside her. His eyes shone with admiration. "I've traveled, and seen much, but I wouldn't have thought anyone could be cured after a vampire bite. You must tell me more about this formula you created."

As they walked down the hall they found Elizabeth and Roger coming down the hall toward them. Julia could see in their faces the fear of the worst, and the hope for the best. They waited anxiously for Julia's words. "She'll be alright," Julia said. "She'll gradually become stronger. If she continues to do alright she may be able to go home in a few days."

Relief showed clearly on Elizabeth's face. "Julia, you've done so much for us."

"Elizabeth, please," Julia said feeling uncomfortable with Elizabeth's praise, "I'm not finished yet. We still have a long way to go. You may go back and see her now. "Elizabeth smiled in gratitude and walked with Roger past Julia and Elliot to Carolyn's room. Julia turned to Elliot. "You haven't told me what you plan to do about Helen."

"Angelique grew up around voodoo, and learned it from her mother. But voodoo can be used for good as well as evil. While I was studying religions I spent some time in Haiti with a Bokor, a sorcerer. I was able to learn much about voodoo rituals. I plan to use voodoo against her. That's why I need Maggie to contact the spirit world. I can show her the necessary ritual."

"Are you sure that will work? Wouldn't she know what you were doing?"

"She may find out, but right now it's the best plan I can come up with. Right now out biggest problem is convincing Elizabeth to have the ceremony necessary to conjure spirits. I was able to speak with her. She really seems to like Helen, and trusts her."

"I can talk to Elizabeth," Julia said unsure of how she would explain that Helen was really a two-hundred-year-old voodoo follower named Angelique, or the necessary to contact spirits.

"You look tired Julia. Why don't you go get some rest." Elliot was right, Julia thought. She was tired. She had spent all night in the lab working on a cure for Carolyn.

Vicki woke up the next morning with an odd lethargic feeling. She couldn't remember that clearly anything had happened to her last night. Everything seemed like a blur after she went to her room. She could remember Baranbas coming into her room, but little else. She dressed, and looked at her reflection in the mirror. That's when she saw the puncture wounds on her neck. She became frightened again as she remembered everything. She remembered the pain as he tore into her neck, then the desire that came when she felt her resistance slip away. It had been unlike anything she had ever felt. She quickly grabbed a scarf and wrapped it around her neck, covering the marks.

She walked downstairs where Mrs. Johnson had prepared a modest breakfast. Mrs. Stodard, and Mr. Collins were already at the hospital. It was better that they weren't here. Vicki didn't feel like facing anyone today. She hurried to finish breakfast before Quentin came. She almost made it. Qunetin came in the dining room, as she was finishing. "Good morning."

"Good morning," she said in a vague voice that even she didn't recognize as her own.

She finished her breakfast silently. Quentin noticed that she seemed to be putting a distance between them. "Is something wrong?" he asked. "You seem different this morning."

"No, nothing's wrong."

"Does this have anything to do with Barnabas Collins? Was it something he said to you last night?"

"No. Don't worry, everything's all right. If you excuse me, I have to start David's school." She stood up and left him staring after her curiously.
