Helen left Collinwood that afternoon for the hospital. This was the first
time she had been in the hospital since Carolyn had been admitted. Collinwood
had kept her busy, but now it was time to return to her own agenda. Elizabeth
had grown to rely on her heavily to manage things around Collinwood. Elizabeth
and Roger had both grown to trust her that was just what she had been hoping
for. She found Elizabeth and Roger in Carolyn's room. "How is she doing?" Helen
asked.
"She's improving," Elizabeth said with a faint smile.
"You both look very tired. I don't think you've hardly been home since she was
admitted."
"No," Roger answered, "we haven't."
"I can't bare to leave," Elizabeth said, and looked over at the bed where Carolyn
was sleeping. "What if something happens while I'm away?"
"I could stay here with her. If there's any change, I could let you know."
"You don't mind?" Elizabeth asked.
"Of course not. I'm happy to do all I can to help you."
"You've been wonderful," Elizabeth smiled fondly at Helen as she left the room
with Roger.
Julia walked down along the halls of Collinwood. It was time to talk to Elizabeth
about Helen, and what Elliot wanted to do. She was considering what she would
say when she saw Elizabeth coming toward her. "Elizabeth," Julia said with surprise,
"I was just going to the coming to talk to you."
"Helen came by and offered to let me come home while she watched over Carolyn."
"It's Helen that I wanted to talk to you about. Have you thought that she may
not be what she seems?"
"No I haven't. She's been such a big help since she came here. I'm so grateful
that she's decided to stay on indefinitely to help Roger and I around Collinwood."
Julia could see that she it would be difficult, if not impossible to persuade
Elizabeth that Helen was anything other than what she seemed, so she would have
to try something else. "I afraid that there may be destructive forces at work
inside Collinwood. With your permission, and Elliot's help I want to try to
get rid of them."
"Really Julia," Elizabeth said in a disbelieving voice, "you sound just like
Elliot. He said something similar to me last night. Do you think this is really
necessary? The seances that we had were a disaster. I don't want another reoccurrence
of what happened before."
"Neither do I, but have you considered that Elliot may be right? We only want
to avoid any more harm to anyone else."
"What is it that you and Elliot want to do?"
"He want's to perform a ceremony, with Maggie's help, to rid the house of any
unwanted forces."
"This all sounds so unreal. How well do you know Professor Stokes? Do you trust
him?"
"I've know him for several years. Ever since he took a position at New York
University. I trust him completely. Elliot has traveled a lot, and he has quite
a vast knowledge about the occult."
Elizabeth seemed to consider Julia's words. "Alright Julia, do whatever you
think is appropriate."
"Thank you," Julia said and went to phone Elliot.
