The next morning Elizabeth had asked Vicki if she would mind picking up a few things for her in Collinsport before she started David’s lesson. Her list was short, so Vicki was able to get the items quickly. She and was carrying a few awkward packages. She heard an unknown male voice say, “Those look awkward miss, let me give you a hand.”

“Thank you,” she said as part of the burden was taken from her. She was now able to see a tall, well-dressed man standing in front of her. He had dark blonde hair, a slightly muscular build, and dark eyes that seem to devour.

“My name’s William Haynes.”

“I’m Victoria Winters. It’s nice to meet you Mr. Haynes.”

“You can call me William.”

“Alright, William, I’m only parked up the street two blocks.” They proceeded to walk in the direction of the car Elizabeth Stodard had lent her for the afternoon.

“So, do you live close or are you just passing through?”

“I’m only here for a short while on business.”

“Where are you from?”

“Everywhere. I don’t stay in one place very long, though most of my business takes me to Bangor.”

It wasn’t long until they arrived at the car. They unloaded the packages into the trunk. “Thank you again for the help.”

“You’re welcome, Vicki.” He turned, and left. He had first notice her in town a week ago. He has always had an ability to see things, and to read people. His abilities had told him that there was something special about her. Today was the first opportunity he had to talk to her. He found her interesting. She would be perfect for his plans. But first he had to separate her from her fiancée, and he knew just how to do it. He smiled to himself as he contemplated getting Barnabas Collins out of the way.

It was that afternoon when Barnabas came to the old house. Everyone was gathered in the drawing room. Vicki and he had waited all evening, when the time was just perfect, to announce their engagement to the family. Elizabeth had been so happy about the engagement. “Vicki, that’s wonderful news. I’ve always thought of you as one of the family, but now you truly are.” Roger had welcomed her tot he family with congratulations and a warm hug.

“This calls for a celebration,” he announced to the whole room. “What do you all say to meeting back her tomorrow evening and giving Vicki a proper welcome to the family.” This idea was met with great approval by the room, so it was decided tomorrow evening they were to have a celebration in honor of the upcoming marriage.

Later, as it was time for Barnabas to leave, Vicki walked with him outside. She smiled at him so warmly that it pushed all other thoughts to back of his mind. “I love the way you look at me,” he said and pulled her into his arms and held her for a long moment. He enjoyed how wonderful she felt against him. Then he kissed her goodnight..
