William knew that he would find Barnabas at Collinwood. Barnabas would know by now that Vicki was missing. Perhaps he even suspected that William had something to do with it. Mrs. Johnson answered his knock at the door. “I’m looking for Barnabas Collins,” William said. “Can I find him here?

“Yes. Who may I tell him is here?” she asked.

“William Haynes.” She disappeared into the drawing room.

It was a short time later that he found himself facing the angry face of Barnabas Collins. “Where is she?” he demanded, grabbing William by the arms and giving him a violent shake.

“I would suggest that you let go of me,” William said calmly. “If you kill me now you’ll never find her.”

Barnabas released his grip on William and paced across the room. “$500,000 that’s what you want right?”

“I’m afraid my price has raised since last time. “I want $650,000 now.”

“That fine. When do you want it?”

“Tomorrow. I’ll come to the old house to pick it up.” He left Collinwood with a satisfied smile on his face.

Vicki heard the sound of a key in the lock. The door swung open to revile a slender red haired woman. “Who are you?” Vicki asked.

“My name’s Lena. You’re Victoria. William told me all about you.” Vicki wondered what all William had told, and just what he knew about her.

“Why am I here?”

“You’re going to bring us some money. Enough that we won’t have to worry about anything for quite a while”

“What are you going to do with me?”

“I’m not sure. But I wouldn’t worry about it. William seems to like you. He says that you’re different from a most of the others.”

“Others? Who are the others.”

“They all seem nameless and faceless now. But we got something from all of them through many different ways.” Vicki was curious and frightened of what they had done before. But the only one thing she could do now was to find out more about them, so she pushed her fear down. There was still more that she wanted to find out.

“Who is he? He told me his name, but he’s always manages not to tell me anything about himself.”

“He’s indescribable. He’s like no one else I’ve met before.” A possessive fire seemed to come into her eyes as she spoke of him.

“You seem to feel strongly about him.”

“We met here in Collinsport a few years ago. We’ve been together ever since then. I’ve found that he’s the only person I can rely on.”

Barnabas had searched for Vicki all night without any luck. He’d questioned so many people, but even those who he’d questioned before about William before seemed to have forgotten him. He returned to the old house just before dawn dejected. He had hoped to find her and put an end to his worries. He hoped she would be safe till evening, when William was to return her.
