Moonlight filtered in through an open window, as a young woman stood alone. Her long dark hair came down over her shoulders. A gold colored locket hung around her neck. Her brown eyes held a troubled expression. She walked restlessly across the room. A baby cried; its sleep disturbed by the opening of the bedroom door and the entrance of an unwelcome visitor. A cloud passed over the moon, blocking the intruder from view. “Who’s there?” the woman asked, straining her eyes to see who had entered her room. The shadow-clocked figure continued into the room. “Please stay away,” the woman begged as she backed up. She turned to the left and in an attempt escape, but the intruder was fast. She was grabbed roughly around the neck, and pulled backward. The intruder brought out a knife. She was stabbed, and allowed to fall to the floor. Blood oozed out around her. As she struggled to retain consciousness the intruder struck her with the handle of the knife. She collapsed again, still and lifeless.
The night became still and calm. A small stretch of beach spread out along the ocean. At it’s end was the rocky cliff of Widow’s Hill. At the bottom of the cliffs was a cave. Mist gathered around the cliff. A voice was heard in the quiet of the night, seeming to come from inside the cave. It was the voice of the woman who was attacked and murdered. “Vicki, help me please.”
Vicki awoke, shaken with a sense of fear. It was only a dream, she told herself, but it had seemed so real. She got up and walked around her room, trying to shake off the effect that the dream had on her. She tried to go to sleep again, but she kept hearing the woman’s voice from her dream asking her for help. She realized that there would be no more sleep for her tonight, so she got dressed and went downstairs. She went outside, hoping that a walk in the cool night air would clear her head.
She found herself walking along a small expanse of beach. She walked until she came to the base of Widow’s hill. She could still clearly hear the voice echoing in her mind.
The cliff looked exactly like it had in her dream. She climbed onto some rocks, which were at the base of the cliff. She looked along the cliff and found a cave, just as in her dream. She turned away in fear, fear of her dream, and fear of what she may find in the cave. She left the beach almost expecting to hear a female voice call to her. She turned toward the old house. She would never have any piece of mind unless she could prove that it was only a dream with no real substance.
