Vicki awoke with a new direction. Roger would know something about Moreen. She only hoped that he would be willing to talk.

Roger had spent most of the day at the cannery. It was afternoon when she was finally able to talk to him. She found him alone in the study. “Roger, something’s troubling me.”

“Oh,” he said as he sorted through a pile of mail.

“I found this in my room last night,” she shows him the scrap of tweed fabric. “Have you been in my room?”

Roger looked up from his mail. “No. I haven’t been in your room. It could have came from anywhere.”

“There was also something missing. It was a locket that I found a few nights ago. It was gold, round and had a floral design on it. Do you know who it belongs to?” She searched his face for recognition, but found none.

“It probably belongs to Carolyn. Did you ask her?”

“It doesn’t belong to Carolyn. Maybe a former servant?”

For a moment he seemed lost for a moment, but soon came out of it. “Yes, I suppose that’s possible.” He went back to his mail, seeming to dismiss her. “What about Moreen Davis? She used to work here didn’t she?” He looked up again, his emotions hidden.

“She used to work here, but I believe that she’s been gone for several years. What do you know about her?”

“Nothing. I saw her name somewhere. Do you know what happened to her?”

“No. I know nothing about her. I didn’t mix with the hired help back then. If there’s nothing else, I’ve got a lot to do,” he said and returned to his mail.

When evening arrived Barnabas came to Collinwood. After spending time with the family, Vicki and Barnabas was able to find time alone. “I had another dream last night,” she said as they walk outside, away from everyone else.

“The same one?” he asked turning her toward him and searching her face.

“No, this one involved Roger.” She relayed to him the details of her dream, along with the conversation between Roger and Elizabeth that she had overheard and her own conversation with Roger. “Roger’s been acting so strange lately. I’m not sure how to take him.”

Barnabas reached out to her. He felt the softness of her hair, and pulled back. He had only wanted to give her comfort, but he couldn’t let himself get close to her again. It was too dangerous. She was too easy to be with.
