Poem:

There is a special place
A place of dreams
The night breeze blows
Under the incredible canopy of stars
We can look up and gaze at infinity
Or look forward and share a dream
We call this special place
The Drive-in

"Damn, I'm" Willie Loomis looked at his watch. It was nearly six-thirty. "suppose to pick-up Maggie. He'll probably say no...but it's worth a try" He walked into the sitting room. Barnabas was listening to *Water Music* by Handel. "Hey, Barnabas, what are you doing this evening?" Willie asked raising his eyebrows. "Do you have any plans?"

"Julia is coming over. We plan to have a quiet dinner. Listen to some music," Barnabas replied. "Why?"

"Uh..." Willie said. "Well...I have a little problem." He looked over at the bookcase away from Barnabas. "Sheriff Patterson set-up a speed trap along the Bangor highway, and..."

"Did you get caught speeding again?"

"Well, yea, kind of," Willie replied. He looked at Barnabas and smiled. It was his bad little boy smile. "Look, I've got problems. I already made a date with Maggie and now I can't keep it. I've lost my license."

"And you want me to drive you?"

"Well, what I had in mind was sort of a double date," Willie said. "We had plans to go...to the drive-in."

"All right," Barnabas said, smiling.

"I knew that you didn't want to," Willie blurted.

"No, Willie, I said all right."

"You said all right," Willie laughed. "Thanks so much! I know you'll just love it there. Some great movies are playing."

Later that evening, Barnabas and Julia, Willie and Maggie, were sitting in a line of cars, waiting to go into the drive-in.

"Be sure and save your ticket stub," Willie said, from the backseat of the Chevy stationwagon. "They usually hold a contest. And we might have a winning number."

"Thanks," Barnabas said. "To be honest, I have never gone to one of these. I don't even have a television at home. This should be a new experience for me." He paid the clerk and they pulled into the drive-in.

"Be sure and park near the back," Willie said. "Sometimes, the action gets hotter in the car than on the screen...and we might need some privacy."

"Willie!" Maggie laughed. "What are you talking about?" She blushed slightly, as he wrapped his arm around her.

"I certainly hope so," Julia said softly. She looked at Barnabas with a look of longing. She sat next to him on the front seat.

"What is this for?" Barnabas asked, pointing to a metal box sitting on a pole next to their parking place.

"That is for the sound," Willie replied. "Put it in the car on the window. Before the movie starts, they will be playing country music and running a few ads."

"Isn't this nice," Julia said. "It's so cozy here...friends all together on an outing."

"It's great," Willie said, smiling. "Maggie and I come here every weekend." He looked around the car. "Say, would anyone like some popcorn or soda?"

"I would," Maggie said, stretching her arms. "Get me some of that *Collinsport Dew*. It's a new drink...that's really good."

"Sure," Willie replied. "Would anyone else like anything?"

"Maybe some popcorn," Julia said.

Barnabas raised his vampire eyebrows. "No, I don't think I'd care for anything, thank you."

Willie opened the car door. "Well, com'on, Barnabas, bring the ticket stub and let's go to the concession stand."

Barnabas and Willie walked into the concession stand. It was filled with laughing teenagers playing pin-ball games. The smell of buttered popcorn filled the air. A row of hotdogs were being cooked over an open flame. The walls were covered with posters of coming attractions. Willie approached a young woman behind the booth.

"Can I help you sir," she said.

Barnabas couldn't believe his eyes. She looked so much like his lost love, Josette duPres, even more than Maggie did. He felt his body begin to tremble.

"Yes," Willie replied. "I'd like some *Collinsport Dew*, a popcorn, and I'd like a weiner." He held six dollars in his hand and hoped it would be enough.

Back at the car, Maggie leaned over to speak, to Julia. "So, how are things going with Barnabas?"

"Pretty well," Julia replied. "We are very good friends..."

"Boring, in other words," Maggie said. "When are you guys going to *do it*?"

"Oh, Maggie," Julia said, blushing. "I don't think Barnabas is interested in me, in that way."

Maggie rubbed the shoulder of the older red-head. "But I know you are," she said, laughing softly. "Really, Julia, you and Barnabas should do it. This is the swinging seventies afterall. Willie and I have a great sex life." She paused smiling. "I would never have dreamed of talking like this before...but Willie is so good. He fucks me silly."

Julia shook her head. "You are terrible, Maggie." She smiled. "But I'm happy for you two." She cleared her throat. "And how are things going with the Collins family?"

Maggie raised her eyebrows. "You aren't trying to change the subject, are you? But to answer your question, everything is going fine. David will start college this fall. Amy is going into the tenth grade. She is very good at math. Sometimes, she knows more than me...and I'm her governess."

Willie leaned over the urinal. "Ah, it always feels so good to empty my willie," he said laughing.

Barnabas stood in the corner of the men's room, holding the popcorn, dew, and hotdog. His vampire fangs kept wanting to protrude. He was thinking of that girl at the concession stand. He must have her. She must become his bride. His sweet Josette will live again.
