"I'm shocked," Sarah Johnson said, gently tipping back her glass of beer. "I just can't believe that Mr.Collins would allow such a thing on his property." She shook her head. "All those people, naked as jay birds...terrible...simply terrible."
"It certainly doesn't seem like cousin Barnabas," Carolyn Collins Hawkes said. "He has gotten the whole town mad at our family."
The bell chimes sounded above the entrance door, as Luther Evans walked in. He was a big man with a thick full beard. His nick-name was the bear, because he looked like one. He had thick muscular arms covered with hair. "This whole thing isn't right," he growled, throwing a long piece of paper onto the bar. "I've drawn up a petition against this nudist park, idea. Someone has to have the balls to stand-up against Barnabas...and I do, big, fat ones. Frankly, I don't give a damn, if he is mad or not."
Barnabas sat in the corner. He was wallowing in self-pity. He hated this; the whole town being against him, but it couldn't be helped.
"What I want to know...is who the hell, Barnabas thinks he is?" Luther asked, pounding his fist on the table. "Collinsport is a family town; a place where a man can bring his wife and kids for a vacation, without worrying about anything immoral or obscene."
"All righty then," Bob Rooney, the bartender said, "Luther, we all get the idea. You don't like naturists. Now, just drink your beer and change the subject."
"Bob, do you support this idea?"
"Yes, I do. A naturist park is good family recreation," Bob replied, as he wiped down the bar. "There is nothing sexual about it, at all. Some people just enjoy, laying in the sun, without clothing. It isn't dirty. Dirty thoughts are only in the minds of people, like you, that don't have a clue, of what it is really all about."
Barnabas regained his composure and stormed across the room, tossing his brandy decanter onto the bar. "Thank you, Bob." Luther glared and regarded him with disdain. "Luther, you are an idiot."
"Watch your mouth, Collins," Luther said, balling his hands into two fists. "I would love to take you apart."
Barnabas sighed in disgust. "It would be all too easy to finish you off...but I'm very close friends with your cousin Maggie...and so I won't."
"Don't do me any favors," Luther said, laughing heartily. "I was in Nam...special forces, so kicking the ass of a Collins blue blood wouldn't be any problem at all."
Three ladies walked into the room, Victoria Winters, Julia Hoffman and Liz Stoddard. They sat down at a table in the corner. Liz motioned for Bob. "Yes, we would like the usual. A glass of port for Vicki, scotch over the rocks for Julia, and I would like a glass of brandy."
"Certainly, Mrs.Stoddard," Bob Ronney said, quickly moving behind the bar .
"Luther," Liz said, "I've heard about your petition against the naturist resort. Well...." She glanced and smiled at Vicki and Julia. "We have decided to go public. Vicki, Julia and myself, have formed a company. The nudist park is our idea. My money is being used to build it."
The people in the room were shocked. Carolyn and Mrs.Johnson had their mouth's wide open in surprise. Bob Rooney dropped a glass of beer. The glass didn't break, but cold beer spilled all over the floor. Luther was at a loss for words. He just couldn't believe such a fine lady, would do something like this. Only Barnabas was calm. He had a big grin on his face.
"Yes," Vicki said, smiling, "And we would like to invite everyone here, to visit our club, at no charge. Please consider coming, and see what it's all about, before being against it."
"A little sun and fresh air is good therapy for anyone," Julia added.
