My name is Willie Loomis. And this is my story. Not my whole story, mind you, but one of the strangest parts. How going to night school changed my life. Yea....
I was born in the inner city. I grew up tough, learned how to fight, use a blade. Don't be so shocked. I had to. It was a matter of survival...kill or be killed. It was a jungle out there. It really was. Well, to make a long story short. I traveled around the country with Jason McGuire. We were con men and damn good at it. He was especially. I mainly used my fists. I was his tough guy. We went on from year to year, everything was going just fine. Until we came to Collinsport and I met Barnabas.
Barnabas is a vampire. He was cruel to me, but I learned to love him. Hey, I'm not gay or anything like that. No gayer than the next guy...which are all a little bit...look at how men act in prison. But that is another subject. Barnabas was...well, just an amazing guy, you couldn't help but love him. He gave off such powerful vibes, that a person just felt good being around him. Do you know what I mean? Kinda like JFK. This guy was a born leader. Very special. The kind of guy that legends and songs are written about. Barnabas ain't no slouch. Not at all.
I've never had much education. So a couple of years after I started working for Barnabas, he and Julia, suggested that I take some night classes at the local college. Oh, I guess that I'm jumping ahead of myself. I forgot to tell you about Julia. She is one swell gal. She really is. When I first met her, she didn't like me much. But now she's crazy about me. I can tell. It's kind of a funny situation. It don't make any sense. But she is in love with Barnabas. I know she is. He knows she is. She knows she is. But no one is willing to admit it. Anyway, I guess life is like that sometimes...some feelings are left unspoken. My old man never said he loved me. He didn't want to be considered a sissy. Shit, life is too short to act like that. But I guess I can't talk, I never told Maggie Evans; how much I loved her.
The night that I went to sign up for a class at night school; I went with Julia. There was a strange mixture of people waiting in line to sign up. There were old people, young people, and all kinds of people in between. Most of the classes seemed boring, math, book studies et cetera et cetera. The kind of subject that I flunked out of in junior high. But there was one class, that caught my eye,
{Applied Advanced Science, taught by the Doctor} That title seemed boring. But when I got to the description. That was a different story....
*Description of course* Science when it is advanced enough cannot be distinguished from magic. This course will cross the barriers of time, space, and reality. There is only one fundamental truth in this course. One law that can never be broken. One lesson that the student will learn. And that is: ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE
Man, let me tell you. I signed up for that course right away. And I ain't lying...or my name isn't Willie...tough guy...vampire helper...er...Loomis.
