The Doctor and Lily carefully opened the door to their time machine. "Where in the world are we?" Lily asked.

The Doctor looked around at the ruins around him. There were the remains of ancient looking buildings, and a worn out road, broken and covered with dirt. He looked up at the stars and then at a crescent moon. He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not sure...but this appears to be the planet Earth." He pulled his trench coat around himself, there was a chill in the wind. "A better question might be: when are we? This appears to be a time when the Earth is devoid of human life."

Lily moved closer to him. "It may be empty of human life but I detect one of my kind." She stood in the cold air wearing nothing but a low cut black gown, her nipples stood firmly against the almost sheer fabric.

"Oh, really, a vampire," the Doctor remarked. "Well, I guess all that remains is the eternal question..."

"Is it a good..."Lily asked, softly.

"Or is it a bad vampire?" completed the Doctor.

In the *Blue Whale*, Quentin poured himself another drink. "You know cousin," he said, slurring. "I think I'm going to sit here and drink until I pass out...that is what I'm going to do."

"So what else is new?" Barnabas asked, sadly."We have doing the same thing for the last six hundred years. We fight and argue about women and then you get drunk. Maybe, we should work on something together again. When we rebuilt the *Blue Whale*, at least we felt like we were doing something." He narrowed his dark eyes. "What about working on that
stairway of time idea?"

Quentin threw his drink on the floor. "Look, I've told you before...I'm not my great-uncle Quentin. I don't know anything about inventions." He picked up another bottle of brandy. "Don't you think I would love that idea. I could go back in time and visit Beth...or almost any woman, damn it. I haven't been with anyone for six hundred years."

"Drinking blood from field mice isn't my idea of being romantic either," Barnabas said, with a half smile. "Let's face it we both loved beautiful young women and we miss them, deeply."

The door to the bar, suddenly opened. A very tall man wearing a brown trench coat entered. "Excuse, me. Do you have any soda pop...or any jelly babies? I'm just dying for a sugar fix."

A young woman entered. She had long black hair and very large breasts. The outline of her buttocks showed clearly through her black gown. Both Barnabas and Quentin stared at her. Their eyes were opened very wide.
