The air was warm. There was just a hint of crushed cinnamon in the air. The ocean was dark under a moonless sky and the stars sparkled like diamonds above. Jean-Luc sat on a mound of sand. He was watching Angelique, who walked through the shallow tide, her bare feet playing in the waves.
“Did you give her a kiss?” Angelique asked. “If you did...I wouldn’t mind. My mistress is quite pretty.” She splashed in the warm water and walked towards him, digging her feet into the sand.
“Yes,” Jean-Luc said. “But we are just friends...as are you and I.”
Angelique looked up at the stars. “If you ever go back...I want to go back with you.”
“Go back?”
“Yes,” Angelique replied. “I want to see the rings of Saturn up close, walk down the long hallway at the Klingon home world, meet Data---the first android with a positronic brain, talk with Lwaxana Troi about her love life, have breakfast with Beverly Crusher and discuss the past.”
“What are you saying?”
“I want to live in the twenty-fourth century, be a part of the future,” Angelique replied, sitting down next to him. “I want to be the Captain’s wife and explore space with you.”
“But Q might never come back,” Jean-Luc said, “I might never be able to return, to my time.” He smiled. “Besides, in my time, I’m an older man...and bald even.”
“Bald is very sexy,” Angelique purred. “And I wouldn’t mind if you were older.” She started to loosen her simple white dress, revealing her ample, white breasts. She laughed. “Think of all the help I could be to you.” Her sapphire eyes sparkled under the dim light of the stars. “Don’t forget that I’m a witch.”
Jean-Luc could feel himself getting excited. She was so beautiful. He reached over and kissed her, his tongue exploring her warm, soft, mouth. Her dress slipped to the ground and he embraced her, exploring her warmth, worshipping her beauty. He loved her, but he also liked her. He really did.

Several miles down the beach, a different group assembled. Lord Blair was in the center of a group of people. They were all dressed in black robes, their faces covered. A fire blazed on the beach.
“I call forth from the darkness...our Master,” Lord Blair said. “Come to us, holy one.” He motioned to the receding tide. “Come to us...answer our call.”
The ocean waves started to become larger, rising to almost ten feet, then twenty. There a terrible stirring of the waters, hot steam started to rise from the ocean froth. A creature moved from the waters. He was huge, the color of blood, his cloven hooves moved through the waves, sharp teeth protruding from his mouth, spitting pungent smelling acid. This was Diabolos—the Master.
“Lord Blair, you have failed me,” Diabolos said, speaking in a voice that sounded more like a hiss. “The marriage between your son, Nicholas, and Angelique has not happened. You have failed to bring my daughter to the dark side.”
“Yes, I need more time, holy one,” Lord Blair pleaded. “There is someone else here...that has interfered.”
“There shall be no more time,” Diabolos said. “Nicholas Blair, step forward.” Nicholas moved closer, pulling back his black robe to reveal his face. “Nicholas, now is the time. You will die.” Flame started to come from Diabolos’ fingertips. “You will be burnt alive in my sacred flames.”
Nicholas braced himself. He knew that there was no point in running. He closed his eyes and hoped that when death came, he was wake-up in the world that Jean-Luc had described. It would be a much better place than this, a future where mankind could live in peace. Suddenly, he saw a bright light flash before his eyes. He opened them and saw that someone was shooting rays of light at Diabolos. Could it be phaser fire...like Jean-Luc had told them about?
Morgan fired his phaser at full blast at Diabolos. He would kill this creature before it could change the future. Celeste stood by his side. There was great evil here. She could feel it in her very soul.
Nicholas took his chance. He knew that Diabolos would probably win this encounter. How could science—even future science defeat the lord of darkness. He ran down the beach. He had to hide. The sound of his heart pounding in his ears.
To be continued—
