Chapter Two

Nancy O’Dell: Welcome back, now we go to Collinsport Maine and to Pat O’Brien, who is bringing us an exclusive interview with the Collins family.

Pat O’Brien: Thanks Nancy, I’m here in Collinsport, it is a small town, quiet, a place you’d least expect strange things to occur. But it did. I’m in Collinwood the estate of the Collins family. I want to thank you for all for talking to us.

Elizabeth Collins Stoddard: Your welcome.

PO: What did you think when you were asked if a movie could be made of your lives?

ES: Well, I was surprised.

Roger Collins: I wasn’t sure I wanted everyone to know about what happened.

PO: What do you think of the movie now?

ES: I think that the directors and the actors did a splendid job, they were very respectful in the way that they told our story.

PO: So were you all involved in the making of the movie?

ES: Yes, and I think that is why it turned out so well. Originally they weren’t going to film it here, but after I read the script and talked with the director and talked with the family we allowed them to film here.

PO: What do you all think about the actors that portray you?

Carolyn Stoddard: Mena (Suvari) was wonderful. We got together off set, and I think that help her with the performance because during the dailies I had the feeling as if I was watching myself.

David Collins: I thought Jake was great, we had a lot of fun, we had a lot things in common.

PO: Mrs. Stoddard where you surprised that Elizabeth Taylor was chosen to portray you?

ES: As a matter a fact I was, but I couldn’t be happier, I’ve admired her work for many years.

PO: Roger what about you, Kevin Spacey is playing you, what do you think about his portrayal?

RC: I think that he did a great job, he capture some of my characteristics.

PO: Now Victoria, it was parts of your journals that inspired some of the movie.

Victoria Winters: Yes they were, I was writing the family history with the help of Elizabeth and Julia, and I thought that if I included some of the family journals it would make the book different from others out there. I included my journal as an
outsiders point of view.

ES: She began the family history when Barnabas arrived. He brought such an interest of our families history to everyone. He knew things that we never knew and it just came alive to us all.

PO: What was it like to watch what had happened to you on the screen?

CS: For me it was a little hard, I mean, what happened was just so strange, and sometimes scary.

ES: We all have become very close, we began to talk about things that in the past we would just leave alone.

PO: I want to thank you for allowing us to talk with you all. Back to you Nancy.

NO: Thanks Pat. When we come back I’ll be sitting down with Barnabas Collins and the man who portrays him in the new movie Collinwood, Clive Robertson.

Clive Robertson: Hi

NO: I’m so glad that I get to sit down and talk to you both. Barnabas what are you doing in Hollywood.

BC: Well Nancy, I’m in Hollywood to do promotions for the movie, some other Collins’ will be here later.

NO: Barnabas I heard that you have some big news.

BC: Well actually I do. I was married two weeks ago.

NO: Who’s the lucky lady?

BC: Maggie Evans, I am so lucky that she is in my life after all that has happened in our lives.

NO: Well congratulations.

BC: Thank you.

NO: Clive let me ask you something, what was it like to do a movie like this?

CR: It was incredibly different from what I was doing.

NO: That’s right you were on Sunset Beach.

CR: Yes, I was. I feel so lucky that the director thought I would be good for the role of Barnabas Collins. And I got to work with such a great cast.

NO: Barnabas what was it like to see yourself being portrayed on screen?

BC: It was strange at first, but Clive does such a wonderful job, sometimes I thought he really was me.

NO: Was it hard for you to do this role?

CR: No, but I had a lot of help. Barnabas helped me so much, I don’t think I could have pulled off the performance I did without his help.

NO: We’re going to show a clip, then I have one more question for you Barnabas.

go to clip. . .

Barnabas: Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t kill you right now?

Julia: Because I know how to cure you.

Barnabas: What?!

Julia: I can cure you. I’ve been doing some tests on Maggie’s blood and I believe I found something that I can do to make you a man again.

Barnabas: How do I know your telling me the truth?

Julia: I’m putting my life into your hands.

back to interview

NO: My last question is for you Barnabas. Were you really a vampire?

BC: Yes, I was Nancy, but thanks to Julia, I am cured, and I can live a normal life.
