Chapter Two
"Any lie will find believers as long as you tell it with force." Greta Garbo from Queen Christina
Charlotte smiled at as she watched Roger come up the path. She ran to the front door and opened it, throwing her arms around him.
"I'm so glad you home," she said kissing him.
"So am I with a greeting like that," he said. "So what did you do while I was gone?" he asked as they walked into the living room.
"I went shopping for paint. I want to paint the room upstairs," she said.
"What color did you pick out?"
"I couldn't decide so I brought some samples home, I thought you could help me."
"I have to go back to the office tonight," Roger said.
"Vicki invited me to play Majong with some friends of hers."
"Good, then I won't feel so bad about leaving you alone," Roger said kissing her softly.
"Then I'll call Vicki and tell her I can come," Charlotte said.
***************
Burke watched Roger from his desk, he was talking on the phone, by the look on his face Burke knew that it had to be Charlotte. What did Roger do to get such a woman like Charlotte, he had only known her a month before he married her. Burke got up and walked over to Roger's office, he hid between some filing cabinets and the door, no one could see him, and he could hear all that Roger was saying.
"That's great," Roger was saying. "No don't do anything till I get home, I want to be there for it."
There was a pause, and Roger laughed. "I wish we could have had breakfast together. I didn't want to wake you, you looked so beautiful asleep. Did you have a good time with Vicki and her friends?" he asked. "That's great, no. I'll call you later. I love you too."
Burke hurried back to his desk. He had to be smart about this there had to be some way for him to get Charlotte for himself.
He'd use Vicki, he could get her to do anything he wanted her to. He picked up the phone on his desk and dialed her number.
"Hello."
"Vicki, it's me Burke."
"Hi," she said delighted to hear his voice.
"I was thinking about you," he said, knowing this was what she wanted to hear.
"You were?"
"Yes, and I kept thinking of making love to you, Vicki I need to see you. Can you met me at lunch at my place?" he asked her.
"Burke," Vicki said embarrassed, but with a hint of pleasure in her voice that gave it all away.
"I need you Vicki, met me at my place at 1:30," he said and hung up.
*****************
Vicki cried out, she had been given this much pleasure before in her life. Burke hadn't even come inside her yet. Burke moved up and looked at her with a wicked grin on his face, and licked his lips, and kissed her deeply, and she found herself once again at the mercy of him. His fingers were exploring her, she didn't think she could take it any longer.
"Please Burke," she gasped. "Now."
He entered her, she wrapped her legs around him, and he could go deeper within her. She dug her fingers into his back. She cried out his name as she climaxed. He rolled off of her and smiled at her.
"What about you," she asked out of breath.
"I'm fine," Burke said kissing her deeply. "I'm more than fine," he repeated.
*****************
Roger walked up the steps of Collinwood, of all the days Elizabeth should call today was the worst. He wanted to be with Charlotte.
"Uncle Roger," Carolyn said as he walked into the Drawing Room. She jumped into his arms.
He smiled as he gave his niece a hug, he had missed her. "How are you Carolyn," he asked her.
"Good," said the pretty twelve-year-old. "How is Charlotte?"
"Wonderful, she's working on the house, she completely redecorating it all," he said.
"Can I come over sometime?" she asked.
"Of course, and I expect you to come and stay with us some night also," he said. "Where is your mother?" he asked. "She called me this afternoon."
"Mother's in the office, she's been in there all day."
"I'll come and say goodbye before I go," he said kissing her on the forehead.
He went down the hall toward his sister's office. "Hello Liz, he said falling into a chair that sat before the desk, where his older sister sat.
"Roger, it's so good to see you, you look good. How are you?"
"Wonderful, I couldn't be happier. Now what is it that is so important that I had to come over right away?" he asked his sister.
"Roger this is important," Elizabeth said. "Now that you are married, I need to give you this," she said, handing her brother an envelope.
"What is it?" he asked.
"I don't know, the lawyers sent it over last night. It's from Father's deposit box. They said that you were to get this when you married."
Roger opened the envelope and took out the letter. It was from their father. He wrote Roger about the inheritance for Roger's children.
Roger had been away at school when his father died, he had been as old as Carolyn, and had never really gotten to know his father. In his letter his father told him how proud he was of his only son.
"Thank you Elizabeth," Roger said.
"You're welcome. Now Roger I want you and Charlotte to come over for dinner with Carolyn and I, she misses you."
"I know I saw her when I came in. I miss her too," he said.
"I'll call you in a few days," his sister said getting up from behind the desk and hugged him.
*****************
Roger walked into the house. Charlotte looked over the banister, "I'm up here Roger." He ran up the stairs two at a time. He found her in their room, between the bathroom and the bedroom.
"I thought you weren't coming," she said nervously.
"You waited for me?" he asked.
"Yes, but I can't wait much longer," Charlotte said turning into the bathroom.
He followed her inside and watched her pick up the small white object. "Well?" he asked.
She looked and shook her head. He took her into his arms. "It's okay baby. Well have a baby before you know it."
He looked at her and wiped away her tears, "I'm sorry," she said. "I just so disappointed."
"I know," he said pulling her closer.
