Chapter Four
Will had returned to the lab with news about Daphne, “I found her house,” he said handing Quentin a photo, it was of Daphne when she was five, she was wearing the same dress she had on when Quentin first saw her.
“Jean said that Daphne and her father had a falling out over her fiancé.”
*******
“Charles,” she said, “he was like no other man I ever knew growing up, he like the same things as I did and we could talk about things I never could with my father, or anyone else.”
“He was a lawyer?”
“Yes, he wanted to help the people who were often left behind.”
“How old were you when you met?”
“I was 24.”
“When were you married?”
“We got married two years later. Daddy didn’t approve of Charles, mainly because he wasn’t rich like I was, he thought he was just after my money. He made it very clear that if we married he would cut me off from everyone.”
“I’m sorry Daphne.”
She was quite, it must have been hard for her to loss her family, “Quentin why am I here?”
“I don’t know?” Quentin said feeling rather helpless.
“Am I dead? Is that why you’ve been asking me all these questions about my life?”
“We found a birth certificate, but no. . . we’re not sure yet.”
“What year is it?” she asked. Quentin debated whether he should tell her or no, then he told her, “Then I must be dead.”
“You might not.”
“Quentin will you help me?”
“Yes Daphne,” Quentin put his hand into the hologram and held it close to Daphne’s. It seemed as if they were actually touching.
To be continued. . .
