It was 9:00 Monday morning and Melissa
was ready for the day to be over all ready. Why can't it be Friday?
she asked herself.
Barnabas was running around the room, being chased by Angelique again. "Barnabas
will you marry me," she as always saying. Unlike the other little girls
in the class her attentions were never towards any other boy but Barnabas.
Maggie Evans was playing quitely in the home center, pretending to cook dinner,
when Willie Loomis stormed into the center.
"Ms. Melissa," Maggie began to cry, "Willie messed up the dinner."
"Willie," Melissa said coming over to the two of them, "Why did you do that?"
"She won't let me play," he said angrily.
"I'm making dinner for Joe," Maggie told Melissa.
"Don't you think there is enough for you all to have some," Melissa suggested.
"But," Maggie began.
But before she could say another word, Quentin Collins came into the room.
Melissa had been hoping that Quentin would be out today, but such luck
was hers.
"Hello Quentin how are you today?" she asked.
"Fine," he said holding up a toy, "I got this yesturday from my Dad."
"What is it," Melissa asked.
"A Wolf Man, see you push this button and he turns into a wolf."
Great, Melissa thought, just what we need in here. Now everyone will
have to get one too.
Once Quentin brought something to school, everyone else had to have one too.
They were never the normal toys the other classes in the Collinsport
Day Care had, they were always odd. But then again her class was anything
but normal.
"Turn up the music," Carolyn begged as she jumped around Melissa.
"It's loud enough," she said, and Carolyn danced back to the music center.
"How are you doing this morning," asked Josette's father, Andre. He
was single and was the best looking father in Collinsport.
Melissa smiled, "I'm doing fine, the weekend could have been longer."
"It always could," he replied. "Are you going to the dinner at Collinwood?"
"I was thinking about it," Melissa said.
"Going anyone to go with?"
"No," Melissa said, "I just thought I would go on my own."
"My sister is going to watch Josette, and I was going alone also, would you
care to go with me?"
"I would love to," Melissa said.
"Great I'll talk to you later," he said and kissed Josette goodbye.
"All right everyone," Melissa said. "Let's clean up it's time for circle
time."
She supervised as the children cleaned up their centers and sat down on their
names on the floor before the bulletin board.
"Quentin put the Wolf Man in you cubby," Melissa said, every day she
had to tell him that. No matter what he did, she couldn't say mad at
him long, he was just too cute, all he had to do was smile and she would begin
to weaken.
"Good morning, let's look at the calender, can anyone tell me what today is?"
Melissa asked.
Vicki raised her hand, she was always the first to raise her hand.
"Yes Vicki?"
"Today is Monday."
"Very good, now can anyone tell me what the month is?"
Julia raised her hand, Vicki, Julia and Elliot were the smartest children
in the class. "Yes Julia."
"February."
"Yes."
"Now lets count to find out what the date is."
Everyone began to count, "20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27."
Melissa finished circle time and they all went to the tables for snack time.
