Chapter Four

Barnabas called and wrote Angelique everyday, and she was more in love with him than ever. When they talked to each other, they were be exhausted, both wanting to feel each others touch.

But after three months the phone calls became less frequent, and letters stopped coming. She became depressed and didn’t come to work. The more she got depressed the happier Josette became. Angelique began to wonder what was going on.

It had been four weeks since Angelique had a call from Barnabas, she knew there had to be come kind of explanation for it, perhaps he had work to do. On her last day before she would go to her mother’s for two weeks, she found that Josette was not in her office. She went to work cleaning off her desk, so there wouldn’t be any trouble.

“Good morning Angelique,” Josette sighed happily, walking into the office and sitting at her desk.

“Good morning Josette,” Angelique managed, how could she be so happy, she thought.

“Angelique, can I ask you a personal question?” Josette asked, as she gazed out the window.

“Yes,” Angelique said.

“Have you ever been in love?”

“Yes, very much so.”

“How does it feel?”

“It made me feel alive. When I saw him I felt as if there was no other place for me to be, but with him.”

Before she could say anything else the phone on Josette’s desk rang. Angelique got up to answer it, but Josette grabbed it.

“Hello,” she said in French then she began to talk in English. “When did you arrive? Yes, I’ll be there. I love you too.”

Josette hung up and grabbed her purse, she ran out of the office, she turned back smiling, “I hope you have a good time.”

Josette got into her car, she was going to surprise him with a trip to the French Riveria, she pushed in a CD and Sarah Brightman began to sing Nessun Dorma, she hummed along as she drove to the airport.

She raced to the gate and saw him standing there, she raced into his arms. “I thought I’d never see you again,” she whispered.

“I haven’t been able to get you out of my mind,” Barnabas said and kissed her with more passion than she had ever experienced.
