“Good bye Josette,” Barnabas said and kissed her.
“I wish you didn’t have to go,” Josette said holding him close to her.
A crash from behind them made them break apart. “I’m sorry,” Angelique said as she picked up the things that fell out of her box.
“Here let me help you,” Barnabas said.
“Good bye Barnabas, I love you,” Josette said waving to him as he walked out of the door with Angelique. “Call me,” she said.
“Everyday,” he said. “Angelique I need to talk to you.”
“What could you possibly have to talk to me about?” she asked angrily.
“I’m sorry Angelique. . . ”
“Your sorry? Where you using me to get to Josette? What was I to you?”
“I didn’t know I would fall in love with Josette,” Barnabas said with regret in his voice.
“Fall in love? You love her? How could you love her you hardly know her,” Angelique said slowly.
“Yes, I didn’t know it was happening. I want to marry her.”
Angelique’s eyes filled with tears, she could no longer look at Barnabas, she turned and ran to her car.
Angelique pulled onto the road, she put her foot on
the pedal and sped off, the radio. Her stereo turned on, and a song filled the
car.
I stutter like a broken clutch
When you touch me to much
My tongue gets twisted in you twirl
You say I’m not your kind of girl
A spider underneath my skin
I want you out, I want you in
The venom and the vaccine swirl
You say I’m not you kind of girl
What kind of girl should I be?
The kind of girl who doesn’t see
That you’re looking at me like you want to be seeing someone else
Somebody else
You rip the sureness from me stare
And throw it in the air
Your finger string me like a pearl
You say I’m not your kind of girl
What kind of girl should I be?
The kind of girl who doesn’t see
That you’re looking at me like you want to be seeing someone else
Somebody else
See somebody else
See somebody else
See somebody else
See somebody else
I want you to see somebody else
I want you to see somebody else
I want you to see somebody else(*)
When the song was over, Angelique was sobbing again, but this time she knew
what she had to do.
She drove for hours, not knowing where she was going just driving.
“Barnabas, do you really want to marry her?” Joshua asked. Barnabas had asked his parents to come into the drawing room of Collinwood, he told them that he had something that he wanted to discuss with them.
“Yes, I do,” he said. “I know that I hardly know her, but from the time that I spent with her I know she is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
“When is she coming Barnabas?” Sarah asked as he drove her to school the Monday following his return.
“Well Josette will be coming in five months for the wedding.”
“That long?” Sarah pouted.
“She has a lot of things to prepare for, and so do I, I need to find a place for us to get married. Find us a place to live.”
“You won’t stay at Collinwood?”
“Well, I thought it would be best if we had our own place for awhile.”
“Oh,” she said, then she brighten up, “I’m so excited though, I’ve always wanted a sister.”
Barnabas pulled up to the school, “The time will go by faster than you might think. Have a good day,’ he said and kissed her, she waved as she walked into the school with her friends, who had been waiting for her. She hurriedly told them her exciting news.
To be continued. . .
