Everyday Angelique studied the journals, and by the end of her holiday she had picked up everything that she could from them. She discovered more of her grandma’s books, which she took home with her. She was happier than she had been in a while, and Josette asked her about the change, but she only said that she was feeling better. She didn’t think of Barnabas as much.
She was busy planning how she’d get Barnabas back and so far things were going smoothly.
“Angelique could you help me with something?” Josette asked.
“Yes what is it?”
“Well you’ve meant more to me than just an employee, you’ve been a very dear friend to me.”
“Thank you Josette,” Angelique said.
“I was wondering if you could help me with my wedding, and if you would consider being one of my bridesmaids?”
This was more than she could have hoped for, now she had a way to get to Collinsport. “Josette, I’d be honored,” Angelique said smiling as Josette gave her a big hug.
Angelique’s first job was to help Josette find her wedding gown.
“Oh Angelique look at this one,” Josette said passing her the catalog, the picture was of a beautiful old fashioned gown. The gown was made of a creamy colored silk. The skirt was full. The bodice was low cut, and cut straight along the bust. It had matching cream colored silk ribbons and ribbing on it.
“It’s beautiful, put that one in the pile. How about this one?” Angelique asked. The dress she showed Josette was ivory colored, the skirt was made of a fluffy white fabric that billowed softly. The bodice was tight, and had medium width straps, embroidered in soft pink, purple, and green were flowers. The veil was made of the same fluffy fabric, the model had fresh lily of the valley in her hair.
“It’s beautiful,” Josette said gazing at the gown, she flipped to the next page and stopped. “Angelique I found it.” She handed her the catalogue and Angelique looked at the gown Josette chose. It was made of a silver satin fabric, the bodice was made of different fabric, than the skirt, and it had a lace pattern on it. The skirt was long and full.*
“This is it, I knew I would find one with you.”
Angelique was packing her suitcases, she was going to Collinsport with Natalie a week before Josette and her father, to get things ready for the wedding. She’d be able to work on her plan with out Josette around. Perhaps since she wouldn’t be there Barnabas would remember what they had shared together.
She wished she was in his arms once again. She could still feel his touch, and his kisses. The phone rang breaking into her thoughts.
“Hello.”
“Angelique, this is Josette, I was wondering if you could come by the house, I have something I have to ask you.”
“Sure, I’ll be right there,” she said.
“Thank you.”
Angelique got into her car, she pushed in the tape and music filled the car.
A cheap and evil girl sets out on the city
She’s moistened every curl, she’s poisonously pretty
And the unsuspecting fool fall prey
As the dim detective’s lead astray
And the genuflecting boys all say,
‘The cheap and evil girl will get her way’
The cheap and evil girl
The cheap and evil girl
The cheap and evil girl
The cheap and evil girl dances if you’re worthy
She teases every twirl, she’s deviously dirty
And you fantasize about the ample
Milky thighs you’d like to sample
Vocalize to her example
Deep, illegal sighs - Oh! It’s a scandal
The cheap and evil girl
The cheap and evil girl
The cheap and evil girl (Bree Sharp- The Cheap and Evil Girl)
Angelique smiled at the song. She felt as if she was like that girl in the song, she wouldn’t let anything stand in her way. Didn’t she deserve it?
“I’m so glad you could come,” Josette said taking Angelique into her bedroom. “Could you give this to Barnabas, I would have given them to Natalie, but I thought that she might read them, and I don’t want her to know some of the things I’ve written about,” Josette said smiling handing Angelique an envelope that was stuffed. She began to laugh and soon Josette joined in.
“Of course I’ll give them to him,” she said.
“Thank you, I knew I could count on you.”
“I better go, I still have something’s to pack.”
“Alright, I’ll see you soon,” Josette said.
Josette was such a fool, Angelique thought as she stuffed the envelope into her purse. She’d read them on the plane. Perhaps she could use the information that they might have.
When she got home she finished packing then waited for the limo that Natalie would be in to pick her up.
When it arrived she struggled with her suitcases down the stairs, when she got to the car the driver helped her put them in the trunk that was already full. Natalie hardly spoke a word to her. Angelique didn’t mind this, she had always felt that Natalie didn’t trust her.
They boarded the plane before the rest of the passengers. They sat in different rows in first class, so Angelique had the perfect opportunity to read Josette’s letters to Barnabas. Angelique opened the envelope, inside she found that Josette had written a letter to him for everyday till she arrived.
How sweet, Angelique thought. She opened the first letter and began to read:
Dearest Barnabas,
It seems like an eternity since we were together. I find myself looking at the calendar hoping to see that it is closer to when we will be together again.
Have you thought of me as much as I have thought of you? Some days I just sit and think of the glorious days we had together. I love you.
Love, Josette
The rest of the letters were much the same except for the seventh letter.
Barnabas,
I’ve been daydreaming of you. I think of what are children will be like. I see you and I in front of a fire, me with a sweet little baby in my arms, while three children are playing at our feet. When I see this we are always dress in clothes from another time, could it be that we were together in a pervious life. I would like to think that this is so. I must go, only a day till we are together.
Love always, Josette
Children, she had never thought of that. Barnabas had told her about his little sister so much. She recalled when he said he wanted children of his own. She folded the letters carefully and put them back into the envelope. She laughed to herself as she thought of her plan.
Barnabas had no clue that she was coming, what would he do, she thought. Would he be able to resist her? Angelique closed her eyes and fell asleep.
