Angélique stopped by Ben's room on her way down stairs, he told her what Barnabas did and said that day. He and Josette didn't talk, so she hadn't missed anything. When she was at the stairs she heard the front doors open. There was a lot of laughter, it was Josette.
She hurried down the stairs and went into the dinning room, there was no sign of Barnabas yet.
Everyone sat down at the table, the two new people at Collinwood sat near Angélique. Josette then introduced everyone to Peyton Fowler and her boyfriend Sebastian Foster.
"Mrs. Collins, Barnabas just called he said he is just leaving the office," Mrs. Johnson said as she set down the soup.
"Thank you Mrs. Johnson," Naomi said.
"So how long have you been in the United States?" Joshua asked Sebastian.
"I just moved to New York, but I've been here for about a year, I was living in California. But the publishing company asked me to come and work for them."
"Do you like it, Mr. Foster?" Naomi asked.
"Yes very much, I am still homesick, but it seems very hard not to see myself in New York."
Angélique only half listened to the conversations, she was waiting for Barnabas, about twenty minutes after his call she heard the front door open. When he saw her looking at him he turned away.
"Barnabas," Josette said getting up from the table, and putting her arms around him. When he kissed her, Angélique took out the little doll that belonged to Sarah. She had taken it from the playroom; she pressed her finger on the throat of the doll.
The little girl gasped trying to catch her breath, she made some sounds, "What's wrong darling," Naomi asked her daughter.
"I think she can't breath," Barnabas said running to his sister.
It all went into confusion, everyone jumped out of their seats, "Take her into the drawing room," Joshua said. "Mrs. Johnson please call the ambulance." Joshua took out his cell phone and dialed the number of his doctor. "Dr. Prescott will be here shortly."
Barnabas held his sister in his arms as Dr. Prescott examined her.
"What is wrong with her," Naomi asked nervously.
"I'm not sure, it could be caused by some kind of allergic reaction," Dr. Prescott said.
"But Sarah isn't allergic to anything," Naomi said.
"When the ambulance comes I'll be able to do some tests."
"Why aren't they here," Barnabas said.
"Don't worry they'll be here soon," Josette said.
"I don't want to leave him," he said. "Can't you do anything?"
"I did everything I can think of, I'm sure that the ambulance will be here soon."
They took Sarah up to her room, Josette said that she would sit by her, until they arrived. When Barnabas was alone Angélique went to him.
"I might be able to help her Barnabas," she said.
"What could you do?"
"It happened to my cousin once, and my mother showed me what to do."
"Then do it Angélique, and do it quickly," Barnabas said.
Angélique had Mrs. Johnson bring her some hot water, then she went to her room and got the herbs that she were in the box her mother had given to her. She mixed them with some of the tea she had bought that afternoon. She brought the tea to Sarah, who was very pale and was barely breathing, just tiny gasps. She made her drink the tea.
"What do you think your doing?" Dr. Prescott asked as he and Naomi and Joshua walked into the room.
"I told her she could try this," Barnabas said. "You couldn't do anything."
"Barnabas please," Naomi said, she was on the verge of crying again, Joshua had his arms around her.
After Sarah had finished the tea, the color slowly returned to her cheeks, and her breathing returned to normal. Dr. Prescott examined her; he didn't understand what had happened. The ambulance arrived, but he told them that everything was fine.
"Call me if anything changes," Dr. Prescott said as he left.
"Will she be okay," Louisa asked.
"Yes," Angélique said.
