Quentin's Thoughts and Barnabas' Demise III

Quentin knocked at Beth's bedroom door. He stood there for a few minutes, but there was no answer. He knocked again, and when there was no response he turned the knob. He walked in and the room was empty. He looked around for a few minutes, then shrugged and left out the door.

He spent the next hour looking for Beth but she was nowhere to be found.
Quentin walked towards the drawing room and headed towards the liquor cabinet and the brandy he always kept there. He poured himself a generous amount and then after replacing the lid to the cantor he took the glass and walked towards the window to look out. It would be dark soon. He would have to leave the house! And that only depressed him more. And he then begin to think, {or helping Judith with something. But no one has seen her. Where has she gone?} And taking another swallow, he walked back over to the cabinet and placed the glass there. He left the drawing room and bounded up the stairs and out of sight.

A room at the Inn in Collinsport:

"Are you sure this will cure a werewolf curse?" Beth said as she held a bottle filled with a strange green liquid.

"Yes. It is an old formula that came from Europe, and has been used for generations. Don't forget to recite the poem as he drinks the potion. It is very important." The older woman replied. She was a strange looking woman, wearing very dark colored clothing, that was of common weave. A simple dress with no trimmings. Not one. And no jewelry. That was something that really amazed Beth, seeing as how this woman was supposed to be rather on the wealthy side. At least her remedies were very expensive. And she seemed so very sure of herself, friendly, yet arrogant. But the one thing that really had gotten to Beth were her eyes. Large, brown eyes that seemed to look right through you!

Beth looked down at the piece of paper and read the words again, 'The path you walk is treacherous, through no fault of your own....." Strange words to begin an incantation of sorts. {I really hope this works. If it doesn't I don't know what I will do. The killings must stop. Or Quentin will be found out!}

Beth rose from her chair and looked at the woman, who was quietly observing her. She felt as if every nerve was on end and she was as cold as ice. What was the power this woman had?

The elderly woman could sense the fear in Beth and stepped towards her. "Trust me my child. This will cure your friend. It is the only way."

Beth smiled weakly at the old woman and then walked to the door and left. When she was outside the Inn she began to breathe a little easier. What was the power that woman had? Beth started walking down the street. She had a long way to go to get home, and she must get here before the moon rose. It was getting close to dusk and the light was growing fainter.

By the time Beth had gotten to the grounds of Collinwood it was almost completely dark. It was a good thing that she had walked these ground many times! With that self-reassurance, she continued on as she gazed towards the horizon for any sign of the moon. Not up yet. Thank goodness! Maybe she would make it to Quentin before the moon rises!

Suddenly there was a snapping of twigs and Beth stopped abruptly. She peered into the darkness. She was only a few yards from the main house and did not need to be distracted now! The moon would be up soon. She called out to the darkness, "Whose there?" But no one answered. Standing there perfectly quiet, she listened for a few minutes. She heard nothing, and so she began walking again! But then she heard the snapping of twigs again. She froze, "Whose there?" No reply! "I know there is someone there. Show yourself!"

Suddenly a hand came down on her shoulder and when she turned around she saw a young man standing there. She almost screamed, but the man put his finger to his lips and she stifled it. "Who are you? What do you want?"

The stranger looked at her for a few minutes, and then he replied, "My name is Aristede."
