Quentin's Thoughts and Barnabas' Demise XI
Quentin's room at Collinwood........
He looked up at Angelique and said, "What are you going to do?"
Angelique looked at Beth and said, "Beth, I want you to watch Jamison closely. Don't let him out of your sight."
Quentin shot a surprised look at Angelique and said, "Why? Do you think something is going to happen to Jamison?" A look of total concern coming across his face. Quentin genuinely loved the boy and if any harm came to Jamison because of him he would never forgive himself, much less be able to live with himself.
Angelique looked at Quentin nodding, "I know Petofi. He will search out your weakest point Quentin. And that is one of them." Turning back to Beth she said, "I want you to be sure that he does not go out alone, and intervene if you see him talking to strangers. Petofi may use someone else to get to the boy."
Beth looked at Angelique and nodded her head. "I understand, and I will stay close to Jamison and make sure no harm comes to him." Beth was very fond of Jamison too, as Angelique knew quite well, and she also knew that Jamison loved Beth very much and would listen to her.
"What should I do?" Aristede suddenly spoke up. He had left his master to make sure Beth was safe, but Angelique had told him she need him as well
"You will never again be able to go back to your master, Aristede. You know that. I need you Aristede to watch over Beth and Jamison" Angelique replied.
Aristede's lips curved in a crooked smile at this last comment. That would definately not be a problem. He had begun to care for Beth and this would enable him to stay close to her and make sure she was taken care of.
But Quentin was not pleased with the way this scenario was going. He didn't even know this Aristede and he was not sure he trusted him. And Beth was HIS responsibility, not a stranger's. "Why does Beth need protecting? What about me? I am the one with the problem."
Angelique's eyes sparked with anger. She said in a loud voice, "Be quiet Quentin! It is precisely BECAUSE you have a problem that it has now also transferred to others. Beth needs protection because Tabitha may choose to work her evil through her. Just as Petofi would use Jamison, so Tabitha would use Beth, because she cares for you and because she is close to you, living here! That gives Tabitha a foot in the door so to speak." And then turning to Beth and Aristede she said, "You may go now, and be sure you keep alert! I am sure that Tabitha and Petofi will not be wasting much time to set their plans into motion. Go!" and Angelique added in a softer voice, "and be careful!"
Aristede and Beth both looked at Quentin and then Angelique and quietly left the room.
Quentin rose from his chair, disgusted and angered. He did not like the idea that people were being used to get at him. And he definately did not like the idea of Beth with Aristede! He walked over to the cabinet to get some more brandy.
Angelique watched Quentin with eyes mixed with anger and concern. She understood his need for the liquor, and she understood his anger. But she also knew that she needed him sober and coherent. She walked over to him and putting her hand on his back said, "Quentin, listen to me. I know of the power these two have. You are in great danger! It is most important that you listen to me and stop feeling sorry for yourself."
Quentin turned around to Angelique and was about to say something rude, but he realized that she was really trying to help him and so he said, "What do you want me to do?"
Angelique turned away from him and walked towards the fireplace. "For the time being you are safe. It will take sometime for Tabitha and Petofi to have all the preparations made. I know that Petofi wants to retrieve his hand before he goes too far, because without it, his power is diminished.
But he knows of your being in the future, and plans to use that as his ticket to getting out of this time."
Quentin listend to Angelique intently, not knowing exactly what she was saying, but knowing that she knew "things" he didn't know. And he also knew that he trusted her. Why, he wasn't sure, because she could be self-centered and cruel herself. But for some reason he did trust her with his life.
Angelique ran her hand along the mantle and continued. "Tabitha also needs time get into your inner circle. She plans to use your curse against you. Then turning to Quentin she spoke in that stern voice of authority that demanded totally attention. "Remember this always Quentin, Tabitha is a gypsy. She has the ability to take away your curse, and to reinstate it at the drop of a hat. Do not trust anyone! Not even Beth, or Jamison. You will not know if they are really who they appear to be! Remember that! I have warned you and take care that you listen!"
Quentin nodded his head in agreement. He smiled and said softly, "I do not know why you are doing this, but I thank you, Angelique."
Angelique's face soften a bit and she too smiled. "I have my reasons, Quentin, and I am truly fond of you. But now, " she stopped for a minute gazing at Quentin and hoping that he really would be careful, "I must go!"
Quentin walked towards her saying, "No! Please don't go Angelique. I need you!"
Angelique smiled again and said, "That is not really true Quentin. You do have someone who is very concerned about you and might be of some help. In fact, I think she is at the Old House right now. I must go, but when I return, I will bring with me someone who will be of great importance to curing you." She kissed Quentin on the cheek and suddenly disappeared.
Quentin stood there in bewilderment. All that Angelique had told him was almost too much to absorb. He was annoyed that Aristede took great pleasure in the idea of taking care of Beth and that he was not sure he liked at all. But he brushed that aside for the time being knowing that both Beth and Jamison were in trouble because of him. And he remembered what Angelique had said of someone being at the Old House. Who? Then his face broke into a smile. {Of course, Rachel! She will help me and comfort me} And he grabbed his coat and put it on, getting ready to go the Old House to see if Rachel was still there. But he stopped short when he thought of the last thing that Angelique had said.
".....when I return, I will bring with me someone who will be of great importance to curing you."
As Quentin walked out of his room, his thoughts were of WHO Angelique could return with? Another gypsy? Another witch? Who?
