Mary Jo was quite startled by the sudden sound of those terrifying screams
that issued up into this "shrine" as 'that' Suzanne had called it earlier. She
was just frozen to the spot, unable to pull herself away as the strange and
unfamiliar yet hauntingly familiar people went on about their business oblivious
of her observation. A wild-eyed Julia Sugarbaker burst dramatically into the
room with an overly conservatively dressed Charlene Stilfield. Mary Jo had never
seen Charlene look so smart and proper, and contained. And this Julia, why she
was a mess, and the outfit she was sporting would have embarassed a clown!
"There's a DEAD WOMAN downstairs!" Julia spoke with horror to the group.
Suzanne fell to her knees and called on Heaven for assistance. "Oh, Father God, please forgive them for they have called up spirits of the dead against Thy Holy Order!"
Julia grabbed her sister hard by the shoulder and said, "NO! Not a spirit! A DEAD woman! She JUST DIED!"
"WHO just died?" Mary Jo asked incredulously.
Julia acted as if the cat had gotten her tongue, but she managed to bring herself
into focus as she pointed at the portrait of Angelique Collins and announced
in a shaken voice, "HER! She's DEAD! Dead, dead on the floor!" Julia joined
her sister as she fell into a sobbing heap.
Mary Jo looked to Charlene for an answer. Charlene calmly gave her report. "Apparently,
the Mistress of Collinwood died of heart failure, at least, that is what the
doctor said."
"WHAT are you all DOING in THIS ROOM!" Hoffman was standing at the door of her
former mistress' room with a look that could have killed them all! "Get OUT
of HERE! Get OUT! GET OUT!" Hoffman looked straight ahead and she seemed to
see the Mary Jo in Regular Time as she made her way across the Parallel Time
room and SLAMMED shut the door in her face! Mary Jo jumped back from the shock
of the loud sound and then almost at once she reopened the door only to discover
what she had the first time...an empty room.
