Nicole remembered how the news went over with her family last night as she made her way to Brewster's for her first day of training. She had sent word that everyone was to meet her at the big house so she could tell them all at once about her big news. The idea of her working at the local department store was not too well received. Liz just couldn't believe that her young cousin would chose to work in such a low position in a town where their family was held in such high regard. Roger was of a different opinion, but probably only because Liz was of hers so they got into their own little sibling squabble.

Barnabas did not care for the notion of his daughter working as a sales associate in the least, and even her own mother, Julia found it a little hard to believe that Nicole wanted such a no brainer job. "It isn't that we aren't so very proud of you for striking out on your own like this financially, dear, it's just that of all the jobs you could have qualified for, well, Nicole, this was not one I would have chosen for you." Only Carolyn was the least bit supportive, and what she really wanted to know was how much of a discount would Nicole receive and could she use it as well.

Nicole sighed as she signed in as she entered the store. Kathy the security woman greeted her hoarsely. "I'm afraid I'm comin' down with a summer cold, but then everybody here just passes it around all year long!"

It was the closest thing to good morning that Nicole got from anybody aside from the phoney "Welcome Nicole" that the store manager got everyone to intone as a group in the morning meeting. "Remember everyone to smile and serve. Smile and serve! That is the Brewster way!" The store manager rattled off this pep talk tripe to her less than enthusiastic troops and the day was begun.
