Nicole Collins was eager to get on with her session with Eliott. She spent two evenings a week with him for two hours each evening studying various aspects of the occult, praticing the development of her own innate talents, and relating her personal experiences of the two. She had wanted to tell Prof. Stokes of her encounter with the ghost of the blonde girl the minute she had arrived tonight, but she was bound to follow the class schedule as her teacher had laid out. Study first, practice second and show and tell was saved for the last. Eliott would brook no skipping about lassez-faire! He said that unless her news was about his own personal safety then it could wait until the appropriate and appointed times.
Nicole stared at the candle on the table in front of her until she thought her eyes would pop right out of her head, and then suddenly a flame appeared seemingly out of nowhere and lit the wick! She had done it. For the first time she had managed to light a candle with nothing but the sheer force of her mind. She exhaled heavily and in turn mistakenly blew out the candle. It made her so mad, but Elliott was quick to reprimand her for her unnecessary outburst. "You are so like your father emotionally, my dear girl. What difference does it make how or when this candle is blown out? Whether it be now or till the wax has melted down, and no more of a wick remains is all the same to the experiment. The important thing is that you DID accomplish the task that I set you."
She couldn't argue with the man. She had tried to before and she had quickly found out that it was futile. Eliott Stokes was the immovable object in Nicole Collins' life. As time went on she was to have less and less restrictions and obstacles in her way, but Eliott Stokes would remain thus. He was a solid anchor in her turbulent life and years later Eliott was heard to remark to a fellow colleague that, "Nicole Collins was my greatest accomplishment!"
