Quentin(W) Angelique? (She nods) What are you doing here? Did you come to take my soul for eternal damnation?

Angelique No. Not your soul. Your heart.

Quentin(W) What? (He looks around) Where am I?

Angelique You're at Collinwood. You and I were meant to be together. We will be together.

Quentin Gabriel? Where is he?

Angellique He, his fiance, and the other are outside.

Quentin He's alright then?

Angelique Yes. They have a very happy future.

Quentin What do you mean we weill be together?

Angelique You will be mine. You will give me your heart. (He sits up and gets out)

Quentin We made a mistake. I will never be yours. (She smiles)

Angelique We will see.(She opens the door and exits. Maggie, Barnabas and Gabriel enter.)

Quentin Hello little brother. (Maggie faints and Quentin catches her. He lays her the sofa. Barnabas and Gabriel are staring at him.) What? No smiles to tell me you're glad I'm alive?

Barnabas Of course we're glad, but how? You weren't breathing nor did you have a pulse.

Quentin I don't understand it. One minute I was ready to be buried and the next I was here.

Gabriel And the woman? Angelique Bouchard. Who is she? (Quentin smiles) She said ...

Quentin ...that we were friends.

Barnabas Close friends.

Quentin We were. I'm starving. (He exits. Gabriel goes to Maggie. She opens her eyes.)

Gabriel Darling, are you alright?

Maggie I think so. (She looks at them.) This is....(Enter Quentin) not my imagination.

Quentin Hello Maggie. Are you alright? (She nods) Good. (He looks at Barnabas and Gabriel) You know being dead does two things.

Gabriel Oh?

Quentin Yes. It gives one a whole new out look on life and a major appetite.

Banabas Quentin, what about Sarah?

Quentin She needs to be punished.

Maggie I agree. So does her brother and my nephew. (Quentin finishes his plate. He smiles) I hope they all swing.

Barnabas Then we all have to...(He looks at Quentin) They won't.

Quentin I know. She will have to be punished but not by the court system.(They all smile.)

Act 1 Scene 3

(Two weeks later at the jail. Maggie, Gabriel and Barnabas are outside.)

Maggie Did the sheriff say what happened?

Barnabas No. Only that they were found hanging.

Gabriel Well at least they got their punishment.

Barnabas Yes. (They exit.)

Act 1 Scene 4

(A house. Enter Quentin. He knocks on the door. Angelique opens it and he enters. They kiss and exit.)

Act 1 Scene 5

(An hour later in Angelique's bedroom. Angelique is laying in bed. Quentin is getting dressed. She's smiling.)

Angelique Why did you come here?

Quentin I wanted to see you. (He looks at her) And to thank you for giving me back my life.

Angelique Is that all?

Quentin I can't offer love.

Angelique Why not?

Quentin I'm not ready.

Angelique When do you think you'll be ready?

Quentin Not for a very long time. Maybe never.

Angelique So I'm just an amusement?! (She's up and wearing a robe.) Just a toy to play with? At least until I no longer amuse you? (He looks at her. Her eyes are blazing and she slaps him. He slaps her back and she looks stunned. She reaches out and rakes her nails across his cheek. She starts to slap hiim again and he grabs her wrist. He pins it behind her. She starts to use theother hand but he pins that one also.)

Quentin You're beautiful when you're angry.

Angelique You son of...(He kisses her passionately and picks her up. He gently lays her on the bed.)
